Jeremy I thought you using 12FG..You changed your radio?

No I'm still using the 12FG. If you're real keen on a new radio give a serious look at the JR 12X running DSM2. Dont bother with the DSMJ version because you'll have hell of a time getting receivers that are more costly too.
Sure...the programmability of Futaba's are nice, and I make an effort to try out most of the programs. However after a while you'll realise that you actually dont need all these bells and whistles.

Instead, you want something that feels good in your hands. The gimbals on the 12FG(im not sure about the 12Z or 14MZ) cannot beat the ones on the dsx9(i expect the 12X to feel as good if not better). They do not feel firm IMO.

As you tighten up the springs, all that's changed is that you're getting a strong 'notch' feeling as you pass the centerline of the gimbal's axis.

The backlit LCD of the 12X is a nice touch too

Yes well said. It was the conclusion that I came to as well.
The 1231 and 931 (dsmJ)are expensive compared to the 921 and 1221. Also you can use any spektrum RX as well on the 12X dsm2 set. Thats what I did. got cheap 6 channel rx's for the combat ship etc and kept 921's and one 1221 for heli's and large scale A/C.

It's funny....A lot buy things for all the techie advances which is mostly software and then never use it...LOL. Like I may do a sailplane oneday....and that a big MAY....but the 12X has everything to handle it so future proofing is great. Most modern radios kill heli programming as large scale A/C and especially sailplanes use more of the radio. Hell when flybarless is all that we will be using oneday the swash menu of your fancy radio won't matter a damn!

So why bother with a 12X or 12Z? A. I can afford it. B. I like the backlit screen. C. it is future proofed and will do more of the things I would like to do that my 9303 couldn't. D. I wanted to go exclusively 2.4 ghz. E. The DX7 sorely lacked future proofing and enough functionality. F. It's a solid feeling radio with great gimbals. G. It's JR quality.

Jeremy..you mean you get to feel the strong 'notch' passing the center line for JR? wow..That is what I am exactly lookin at..wonder if futaba has it?

To be honest i was supposed to get the 12x from hobby shack but guess what when I stepped into the shop the boss told me saying if you want to buy just buy..take it or leave it..that's pisses me off and I just could not take it..

Might look into ordering from readyheli..

No. That statement was with regards to my 12FG.
You sure you like that feeling?

With the 12FG, you get that strong 'notch' feeling when you pass thru the centreline.

with the dsx9, as you tighten up the springs..the gimbals feel firmer in your hands. I prefer that feeling

you know what is the reason? if you passing thru the center line means you are at center 0 pitch..at least for me helps in the 3D parts.

TmMugen,

I have read on a thread here that someone said, you can program the 12X to emits a beep at any throttle settings. So you could program this feature for Zero pitch if you like it.

I too like this setting, could someone with the 12X verify it please?

Btw I'm in the same boat as you. Following your questions on multiple thread it seems we are looking at similiar Tx for purchase. A friend borrowed me his 14MZ to play with for a few weeks and I found the it is not as ergonomic as the 10X(my present Tx). Features wise it is impressive, and I have not found a way yet to program a beep when you are at Zero pitch. Maybe the 'notch' will help.

I sure can....and no you cant. It seems like it's as a warning function only and is designed as a preventative to starting the radio with the throttle in the wrong position. No transmitting takes place when the warning is active.
I wanted the ability to have a beep at centre stick as i think it's a great feature for any 3D heli pilot should the radio manufacturers ever take up on it. But at this stage it hasn't been possible on my 12X.

Helinutnz,

Thanks for verifying, although not the answer I like to hear. Btw I like your perspectives on the FUTABA's Vs JR's.

Yes, you can have a beep at center collective stick. This has been posted by several people. Use a timer with the on/off point being center stick.

Yes, as John says, it is possible and I currently utilize it on my 12X. The only rub is that it is linked to a timer. Ideally we could just have a beep at an assigned point without any timer function. I have requested this from Horizon. Hopefully they will make that refinement available down the road.

JKos & Seattle Helo,

Thanks for the info and I hope JR/Horizon make this feature available.

Now I wonder if the Futaba's 12Z/14MZ TXs can do it with latest firmware updates. If it could then JR should also implement the ability to update the software without sending the radio in.

P.S
The 10C turns out to be a very fast radio in term of latency. Thanks JKos.

Oh cool. I tried to do it using a warning instead and never thought of using a timer beep so thought it wasn't possible and never bothered searching for it. Thanks for the info JKOS. I going to head off and try that right now.

Sure would be nice to have that option in the radio. I wasn't too upset about it when I heard of a flier just down the road that had to send his 12FGH in to the service center to get them to reload it as he crashed it when trying to update it. I can update my pocketlader charger which has let me charge LIfe batteries now. So that was a cool change.

however unless JR comes up with a change that is simply too much to resist then I'd rather leave my set untouched or I can send it in for an update if it's really required. I'd resist changing software for usless updates like the ability to change say something on a sailplane if you don't fly them or something like that. I can update my Pocketlader again but the update is not important so I wont do it.

Guys, those of you who are using the 12x for some time, can you tell me what is the issue with the TX battery ??? It gets super hot every time I charge it, the charger itself has an LED which blink while charging and if I understood correctly the charger should automatically stop charging an the led should light steady but this never happened. Even after 14 hours of charging the LED still blinks slowly and I found the battery so hot it can burn your hand !

Another question about the PC interface software, my 12x ia a 40 MHz system from Japan and the software is in Japanese ! Do you guys get an english version of the software ?? If yes it would be great if someone can zip the installation folder on the CD and send me via email to a-karam1@inco.com.lb
It should be small not more than 5 MB

Thanks.
