So, I loaded the software on my pc, and when I plug in the interface it comes up with a message saying the device is not recognized. it works fine on my older laptop. Os is xp pro. I wrote a note to tech support, but they have not got back to me yet. Anyone have any ideas on how to get it working. All my other things that use usb work fine on this pc. Even G4

What service pack for XP?
For fun try creating a new user account with admin rights, log in and try it.

That makes me as nervous as a Nun in a pickle patch!

It should have gave you an opportunity to search for driver. While on-line plug in the usb cable and see if an option to look for driver becomes available. I had the same message the first time I plug it up, updated the usb drivers and all worked great.

Edit: I'm using Windows Vista on an HP Pavilion.

as for service packs...

# 3 is out.

press your "windows" key and the "pause print" to open "system properties"

this window display what service pack you have installed.

most likely nothing to do with your problem but just letting you know its out there.

to update USB drivers...

same as above.

then click on "harware" tab then "device manager" button.

USB on bottom...expand it.

right click on the first one and select "properties"

click on "drivers" tab

the version will be displayed.

5.0.1006.0

is the latest.

Xp pro
Sp2

If I open up the unknown device "thats what it shows up as" it says the driver is date 7/1/2001
version 5.1.2600.0

I really want to make this thing work. Everyone says how great it is compared to g3 or g4, but so far I'm just not seeing it. I was hoping that the new pc would make it shine.

I've seen something like this before with XP.

Go into Device Manager, then update driver on the unknown USB device.

When asked to locate a driver, select "Browse my computer for driver software"

In the dialog type C:\Windows\winsxs into the box marked "Search for driver software in this location:"

if you search inside windows/winsxs for "usb.inf" does it find anything?

Not finding any file with that name. There are a bunch of files with dll's, but no go on that.

I also installed sp3

Would removing then reinstalling the sim itself possibly help?

Everything else I have with usb works fine. Camera/disk drives/G4/etc...

I tried all kinds of stuff.

Updated the bios.
Blaster the usb hub and let it reinstall

did not fix it.

Then, I started trying other USB ports.

I got it somewhat working.

For what ever reason, it is only happy when pluged into a specific port on the back of the pc.

I played with it a few minutes and then my tx died. Soon as it charges I'll play with it some more and let you know the results.

Mike

Edit: Seems to be working fine now. I do not know why, but the machine will only see the interface when it is pluged into one specific USB port on the back of the cpu. It does not work when plugged in to any of the other usb ports.
