One of the following should be true:
1. You have flown heli's in the past.
2. You will learn to hover at a local field with experienced pilots.
3. You have lots of money, time and medical insurance.

If you are an experienced pilot, no insult intended...I am not to familiar with the stuff you have so I wont try to comment.
Good luck with the new bird. It sounds like you really packed it with good stuff.

That list has a certain 'Heliproz' feel to it.

Are you planning on using simulator at all?

I don't think you need any of those 'upgrades'.

Dubro makes some very nice heavy duty arms
for JR servos.

I'd rather have a Futaba 601 gyro instead of a JR
5000.

Thanks RussNY,

answer to #1, yes I can fly em.

answer to #2, I plan on flying with experienced pilots, it's wonderful that way.

answer to #3, I have money, insurance, but seems like little time. 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

Do you work for the Pyschic network?

Fury Shopping List

Hi Paul,

Nice list of goodies.

I think should consider on of the Futaba gyros (401 or preferably the 601). Also I would check with other Fury owners about using the T&T start wand, the space between the frames on the Fury is very tight, other than the miniature pro flex system most start wands do not fit between the frames. The miniature wand works great. I own two furies and do not think any of the upgrades you listed are neccesary. I for some reason you do not like the tail on the fury just be patient and order the gearbox and tail pitch slider that will come with the 80-90 kit. It has a metal parts, along with a metal gearbox and a newly designed pitch slider with much better geometry.

Hope this helps,

Darrell

Thanks z11335,

You are right about Heliproz. Borrowed thier website for the list. going to local hobby shop tommorrow to buy some of the stuff and weborder some of it.

Why the 601? could you help me understand better? should use a futaba servo with this? which one?

Thanks a lot.

If this is your second heli and you are using the same transmitter you will also need another receiver, battery pack, and a new switch. The MP header you need is for a rear facing engine (right side). You'll also need some standoffs or some other method of mounting the MP. Like some of the other guys, I prefer the Futaba gyros (GY401 never tried a 601 because it is overkill at my current level). I have always been a Futaba guy but that it just my preference.

I have two Furys. And I fly for MA. You don't need any of those upgrades. The ali bellcranks will work, but will offer you little or no performance increase. The motor will run fine and cool with the stock fan. If you want an ali fan because it might be easier to mount the magnet, then go for it. At least for the forseeable future, you need that ali tail case and bell crank like a hole in the head. I would suggest that you buy a few extra servo arms. Each arm is a little different, and it is very important to get the arm as square on the servo as possible without using subtrim. You can live without the 8417 on the throttle. Do use a good quality servo there, though.

I fly for Futaba, and of course I know the 5000 is excellent. Do be aware, though, that the 6000 is already on the market overseas and will likely appear over here in the near future. Don't pay too much for a gyro that won't be the creme of the crop for much longer. The GY401 is one heck of a good deal, no matter where you purchase it.

The ProFlex starter ext. works beautifully.

Maybe buy the engine, electronics, exhaust (right sided on the Fury BTW), and a few necessary completion items, then add on the extra support stuff as you go along. There really is nothing to be gained from buying all at once, and you might discover some things that you either don't need or don't like. Try not to spent a gazzilion dollars all at once.

Thanks Dr. Ben, I took your advice on everything but spending. Got it all! Of course when you do not have any of it, you got to get it to be able to fly.

nah! Jason, I had one of those training stands back in the early 80's. It was kind of neat to bolt the ol' kalt baron on it and wiggle the transmitter sticks like crazy. scared the hell out of the neighborhood kids watching on the otherside of the fence

Dr.Ben

You mentioned a Proflex starter ext. Is this what's needed to crank the engine on the Fury?
I just got my Fury yesterday (my first Xcell) and it only has a nice round, smooth, 6mm start shaft.
All my other heli's use the standared 6mm hex socket for the wand.
If I need the Proflex starter ext to get going, can someone please offer some part #'s and where to buy one?

Thanks Bunches

Hello vetrider,

I stayed away from the ProFlex, I am going to use a hex starter. This will enable me to start other heli's, as well as the fury. I was told that the Proflex has a 5mm adapter that can be used, but is made out of aluminum and wears very fast. I know the fury shaft is 6mm and the Proflex will work great on it, but if you own a smaller machine the adapter comes into play. I will have to file a flat spot on the start shaft of the fury for the hex adapter set screws. I do not see any problems, but will let you know in a day or two.

Hi Paul

That very thought crossed my mind also.

I would have to drill out the mounting hole on a 6mm hex socket to slide over the 6mm starting shaft. I haven't had much luck finding a 6mm drill bit in my stash of junk. I do have access to a self standing industrial drill press but, I was hoping there was an adaptor that would go between a 6mm starter wand and the start shaft.
Guess not though.

I'll be very intrested in how yours turns out.

Thanks

Whatever spins the motor.....

For the record, you did get misinformation on the 5mm adapter. The adapter is hardened steel. Believe me; a part with a 5mm ID and 6mm OD needs to be steel to hold up. The very early versions of the adapter were first too hard and then too soft (or the other way around, maybe), but the final product works perfectly and does not wear. I used one for several years on end.

It makes no difference what extension you use. It just needs to be reliable, smooth in use, safe (won't fly off and hit you in the teeth), and versatile. These days, a product that doesn't easily meet all of these goals doesn't last on the market too long.

BTW, I'm almost certain MA has/had a hex adapter like you need. It was sold as a part for that self contained starter they carried. Part #4686-3

Have fun with all of your new toys.

Thanks Ben,

Much more great info from you.........as I expected.

BTW Has anyone noticed the MA page not loading completely today or yesterday? Might just be my system.

Hello vetrider and Dr. Ben

Dr. Ben has corrected me. Good thing too. My info was from a sales associate and I don't always get it right in the translation.

I did notice that MA's website was down, must be the JR Vigor guys hacking thier website

Just FYI -- Some of you have mentioned the start shaft being 6mm, on my Fury 50 the starting shaft is 5mm.

Found 6mm Hex

Hey!!!...... I was digging thru my pile of sh*& on my bench and found a 6mm coller with a 6mm shaft hole (right after I ordered one from Rick's).
I removed the starrt shaft and using my bench grinder, put two small flat spots where needed and reinstalled everything.
Man the FURY is running great and I now have 3 breakin tanks of fuel thru the YS80. The Fury feels like a much more stable version of my Raven. COOL Huh?
