Flybarless Rotor Head Systems > V-bar on gassers - works great!

A while back I posted looking for advice on putting a V-bar in a gasser, and didn't get any responses that were positive. Well, I finally got a chance to try it, and pulled my V-bar out of the 600N and installed it on my Spectra G.

It works great, it's just like in any other heli. I've got the sensor mounted on Zeal gel, and the vibration doesn't effect it once bit. I'm still getting the program tuned in and only have 5 flights on it, but I've got it pretty good. It's got that great stability that a well tuned V-bar has, along with ridiculously fast cyclics, longer autos, and about a 15% power increase.

The Spectra already flew a lot like a regular 90, just a little down on power and not quite as quick, and now it's even closer. I've got it running a standard 231 and Century V3 pipe, I'm betting once I swap the engine over to a TRM231 it'll be almost exactly like a regular 90 in the air.

Hey Eury,

Very nice, what are you using to drive the swash?
Be nice it MA made some headblocks to suit Vbar...

Cheers Rob

It's the Mikado swash driver from the 600N conversion kit. I don't see any need for MA to change a thing. With the Tempest head just pull off all the stuff and use the long balls from the mixing arms for the grips. Perfect geometry.

Hey Eury,

All I mean if they could make a headblock that does not have the holes etc for the flybar.
Would just finish off the conversion neatly IMHO.

Cheers Rob

That's true, but with what MA charges for parts, I'm WAY too cheap to buy one of those theoretical new heads.

Says the guy with the ridiculously expensive heli with ridiculously expensive servos, ridiculously expensive generator, and an even more ridiculously priced piece of electronics to replace a $14 flybar.

I love it when a guy can laugh at himself. Nick, what are you going to do now that you have found this "keeper"? It has been interesting following you around the place trying different machines. Now all you can do is fly. I guess it's time to "monster" that miata you just got. TimT

I dunno, it's kinda weird having a heli that I'm happy with. The thing doesn't even need tinkering, it just works.

Heck, you don't even have to wipe it off. The only thing I wish is the noise. We had a noise problem at a kart track years ago. The two cycle karts were too loud. We had to use a muffler on the end of the pipe at first. The noise didn't change much except at low speed. The culprit turned out to be the intake. We experimented with several designs until there was one that didn't hurt performance but was way less noise. They use it today as a rule. It was like an egg shaped bubble that has a tube inserted into the outer shell at an angle to the carb. It made a nice low turbulance area for the carb to draw from with sufficent voulume not to restrict the flow but to kill the suction noise. It made so much difference we could hear the chain as a result. We even took the tip muffler off. TimT

I have another question for you. Why not loose the generator and regulator and just use a li ion pack? You can get long flights and if it's not enough for the whole day just bring a couple and put in a fresh one after 3 or 4 flights. I like the gen. idea if you are taking movies or working as a photog. It would kill you to remove it though. TimT

The generator is just so nice. I haven't had to touch the heli since I built it, and I've got about 4 hours in the air on it now. It doesn't add much weight, and the convenience is worth every penny.
