What is the best way to secure the muffler to enginei? I have the tt36 with the stock muffler that came with my raptor 30 ARF and the thing always comes loose no matter how hard i tighten the 2 retaining screws. I figure lock tight won't do because of the heat thats generated. Is there something u can recomend that is design for this type of application?

For a quick fix you can get longer bolts and then secure them with locknuts as they stick through the muffler side.

You'll have better success w/ just tightening the
screws if you do it when the engine has just been
runup to temp and then tighten the screws.

most locknuts have plastic inserts which melt out.
Perhaps double nuts or all metal locknuts or
even a dab of RTV on the threads.

Try some 5 minute epoxy on the engine / muffler flange and in the bolt holes. You can twist the muffler off easily after the epoxy hardens but in the meanwhile it will hold tight.

The stock raptor muffler huh? You could try making a gasket out of electrical tape. Clean the flange, and stick some tape on the flange. Then cut out the ports with an exacto knife. Put it all back togethor. When it heats up, it sticks pretty good, and gives the system enough crush/recoil to be able to tighen the screws. Gasket seal works well too, and you can make a gasket out of coffee filter with gasket worked into it. Good luck.

Thanks, John Cadwell

Try using a split type lock washer on each of the retaining screws with some blue loctite. Seems to work well for me so far.

The best answer is to round file (trash can) the Thunder tiger muffler, it is pretty much junk. Also the Thunder Tiger engine will breath much better. The So Call Thunder Tiger Upgrade Muffler is probably one of the best 30 size mufflers on the market, it;s about the same volume as most .46 mufflers and the cost is usually under $40.00. I've tried four mufflers on my Raptor with an OS-32, the first was the Century 30 size (Muffer volume was to small.) Second was a century tuned pipe (needle setting was very critical) Third was a weston (Performace was good) And forth was the TT upgrade. a friend got me to try it and everything smoothed out with it and I've been running it ever sence.
