Avant Aurora - EFX - FX > SwitchGlo on the Aurora

Both myself, and a friend who also flies an Aurora, have experienced glitching after installing the SwitchGlo onboard glow igniter on the Aurora. We both run Futaba radio gear, he's using the 14MZ w/ 9channel 72mhz Rx, and I the 12FG w/ 8channel FASST(2.4ghz) Rx. We both notice the glitching immediately after installing the SwitchGlo on the heli. Once disconnected, the issue completely disappeared.

I installed SwitchGlo on my T-Rex 600 and Raptor90 VMAX a while ago and have had no issues whatsoever.

Just wanted to know if any one else has experienced this.

@pinewaves -

Was it the switchglo that was glitching or other components? Also, where did you have the switchglo mounted?

I admit it is a handy gadget but I like to keep my installations as clean as possible with as few parts as possible > no switchGlo for me.

Just think how *&^*&^ you feel when your Aurora comes plummeting down due to a SwitchGlo

I have them on every model, they work great. If you have your radio setup correctly and the unit is placed properly it's no more likely to cause a glitch than any other component.

The SwitchGlo was mounted on the lower left side(pipe side) of the frame, forward of the fan shroud.

Maybe its' just me, i'll have to look into more. I just thought it was funny that I happend to mention the SwitchGlo to a friend and the first thing out of his mouth was that it caused his ship to glitch. Could just be a coincidence.

What's glitching? If it's just the switchglo kicking the glo plug on and off, it's a bad radio setup.

Sw!tch Glo turns off after 15 seconds. So if its glitcing, it's turning back on somehow. See if it turns on, on the ground after it fires.

What's glitching?

The glitching is most apparent in the cyclic servos, while in idleup. Currently running a headspeed of 1900rpm.

Switchglo is negative shifted which means it will activate whenever the input signal is between 0 and -100%. It will stay completely disabled between 0 and +100%

One problem many forget when installing and setting up the radio is that (at least on futaba radios), whenever a channel is "disabled" the radio assumes the servo's center position (0%). At this precise position the switchglo doesn't exactly know if it's on or off... small oscilations in the signal will make the switchglo ocasionally "blimp". If the physical location of the unit isn't observed as stated by the manual, you can experience glitches.

I solved the problem with two program mixes. One keeps the switchglo always at +100% during flight and whenever throttle is above 5% (and the radio switch is OFF). The other mix drives the channel to -100% whenever throttle is below 5% AND you flick the choosen radio switch. This way not only you're assuring that the unit will never "blimp" during flight but also eliminate any chance of a unwanted hotstart.

I wrote a step by step guide for setting up the 14mz but it also applies for the 12z and basically almost any radio that supports master/slave mixing.
