Gasser Model RC Helicopters > Spectra's head/engine speed?!

Hi all

i wonder what head speed/engine rpm are you running?

i will use a balanced g26/w V3 muffler soon so let me know what is the best RPM for this engine.
(head speed in the + 1800ish range with 700mm main blades)

with stock 7.15 and 7.08 GR.
is there different GR available from MA? (less 7.08)

HS 1800 x 7.15 GR = 12870 rpm and so on...
HS 1800 x 7.08 GR = 12744 rpm

Is it enough or too much? i usually run 1900(15200 rpm) with my YS 90 nitro .

Is it possible to start engine with a hex starter? like a nitro

newbie on gasser need to learn

thanks all
regards
lionel

Lately

With the new zimmerman rear mount muffler I'm running:

1540 (normal)
1660 (idle up 1)
1780 (idle up 2)

With 7.08GR, Hanson 3D plus G26, SAB 710mm blades. I did a full power climbout with governor off/full throttle with my pitch range (like +10 to +11)/tempest 3D head and the engine reached 1790 rpms.

Its possible to start the engine with a Hex starter but not necessary as pull starting is real easy. Also, the clutch shaft is much more valuable to drive a Jewel than to be used for starting.

Merci,

-=>Raja.

Thanks Raja

ok ,so no more than 1800 is a good HS,for the engine life span !!
Is it enough for aerobatics flying and light 3D ? or do i have to change GR less than 7.08 to increase head speed?

thanks

As one who has watched rbort fly his birds, I would definately say YES that 1780 is plenty of speed to do extremely graceful aerobatics and light 3d. You've got to remember that these gas engines have a lot of torque and it doesn't take 2000 rpm's on the head to be able to do extrememly smooth aero's and mild 3d. Of course Raja makes everything look so easy...

On man

Shuttlepilot...

Did you HAVE to throw in that word "mild" 3D? I feel I'm pretty smooth and 3d pretty good! I guess by mild you mean not jerky then I'll accept that. Just didn't want mild to sound like I do the occasional loop and roll and that's it.

No, that's what I do but it's call "pathetic excuse for 3D" or at least when I do it.

I believe "smooth" would best describe your flying being the biggest complement I could give anyone, for what that's worth!

How about another video, Raja?

Which muffler is that and do you like it better than the V3?

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly better than I can pilot them

Sorry about that Raja, I don't mean "mild" I mean EXTREMELY smooth 3d. I guess some folks call it mild because it doesn't jerk back and fork like the heli is on crack To answer the question, YES the heli can 3d with the best of them. It just looks much more graceful and smooth. The heli always looked as though someone were actually flying it and not just doing memorized stick stirring...

Hey no problem guys!

I know what you meant I just didn't think the word "mild" did it justice. I'll be heading to Delaware tomorrow afternoon for that funfly this coming weekend in Lums park -- was out flying the 1005 last night and she's singing along ready to go! 1872 flights total now I'm starting to feel that flight 2000 will soon come

hey raja,

may i use the 90T main gear instead of the 92T?
Is it the same OD than the 93T?

thanks

No

You CAN use it though you'll have to slot the frames/doubler plates to move things closer as its smaller diameter than the 92/93 tooth gear.

I chose not to do so as I didn't want to close the gap between my Jewel motor and the mainshaft antirotation link.

Hey all,

ok Raja,i just need to make on both side elongated holes in the carbon plate, and move back(toward the tail boom) the pinion/clutch/carbon plate unit.
Is that correct?

need to move the engine too !

that's what MA called "GR easily changed"

thanks raja
