Today I was testing my standby rappy 30 one which i bought from some one else. He said it was flyable in fact he had been flying it.I dont see how seeing as i Put about $ 60.00 worth of parts new seesaw new blade grips and bearings and new tailrotor blades, and other mechanics . Now here is the problem well after setting up my radio and linkages I took it outside and fired it up, ran great,so i thougth just a nice easy hover well here lies the problem throttled up got light on the skids but no hover, so I increased the collective engine went to full and then instantly died but it never got off the ground. so i doubled checked everything pitch -2 5 9 throttle 0 50 100 (now i now i will get slammed for just a three point system but i will upgrade soon) so after checking every thing fired up again and this time the tail rotor let loose at the slider but it did that after my engine went to full collective it sounds like the clutch is not engageing or the liner is worn too much.

I am going to replace tailrotor shaft and add a one piece hub But should i go ahead and replace the clutch and liner or is there something alse wrong

THANKS
JON

Sounds like you may have the thrust bearings in backwards in the main head. I have seen this happen before where everything worked fine on the bench but when you put a load on the head trying to hover the collective would actually stick and you couldn't get any positive pitch.

Just a thought.

Engine ran backwards???

If the pitch slider came loose (unscrewed) that most likely indicates the heli was started backwards, or the belt was on wrong causing the tail to run backwards. Normally the pitch slider won't come apart, unless it did something else.

Backwards

Ah Ray

I was just gonna say the same thing,I reckon your engine started backwards, maybe a little too rich on the bottom end.

It should have lifted at full power with +9.

I had a pitch slider let go once just at the end of the threaded section, luckily I noticed it after a botched auto but that stuff is real thin maybe it had some old un noticed damage.

Cheers

Why do poeple sell helicopters anyway? Sometimes they have too many and other times they don't work. Be careful who you buy from. I would say it is good to know the source you are buying from. I only buy used stuff from poeple at the feild. Not a lot, but I at least know the source.

Used stuff is a lot cheaper, but it can cause a lot of trouble. The person might have flown it, but did it fly well for him?

Thrust bearing

martyj according to the manual it was very vague on the thrust bearing the three piece bearing appered to be the same on two sides with the small inner race between them i dont think i got it in backwards but who knows on the bench with a pitch guage it speced out ok. anyone no where there is a better view of the way the bearings are supposed to be.

1st part is the flap damper then the blade gripthen a bearing then a thrust washer then a three piece thrust bearing then the final bearing with two set screws. these go frome the head out to the blades.

Thanks Jon

Thrust Bearing

Jon,

Look at the bottom of the page in the manual where it shows the head assembly and it states which washer of the thrust bearing goes toward the blade and which one goes toward the head. It is very important to put the correct one in the correct order or it will cause exactly the symptoms that you had which was no collective lift when the head has a load on it. I don't have the manual in front of me but as I said, it should state which piece of the thrust bearing goes in which position. The best way I know when piece is which is to put each piece on the feathering shaft and move it back and forth to see which one has the larger diameter hole. You will definetly be able to tell which one is the large hole and the small hole that way.

Hope this helps,

Marty

The washer with the larger hole goes towards the thrust collar, and the one with the smaller hole goes towards the baldes. I guess make sure also that they are oriented correctly - with the grooves towards each other and the ball race in between.
