e-Quick Of Japan EP-8/10/16/18 > Tail belt noise

Its driving me crazy, it started after a rebuild, I put it in about a month ago the only damage was the canopy and the tail boom, put in a new belt. After the rebuild I started easy with slower head speeds and worked up to 425 Carbon blades and 2000, 2200, 2400 head speed. The first flight with Carbons I had a chatter, the belt was loose. Second flight, 2000 fine, 2200 chatter, a little tighter, tighter than I like. Third flight alls quiet, but with a few more flights it chatters at 2400. If you hold the main and turn the tail you hear the belt vibrate, it was hard to find at first because it sounds like metal to metal, but its the belt vibrating against the boom.

I am bummed out, I made the head change for more pitch and cyclic, its flying so nice, except it sounds like somethings about to fall off, and everyone freaks at the field when they hear it, help

Check for bad bearings in the tail.

They seem tight, I have a whole new tail rotor, perhaps I will switch it out and see if that helps.

It may seem good now, but if you've got belt tension on it's may seem like it's tight.

Did you check the tail bearings after the crash?

Also make sure you balance the tail. Doing it with the shaft would be the best.

I remember changing out pretty much my whole tail one time , ball links also, the ball links that I used were too long so I had to cut them to size. The lengths were not cut exactly the same so it had my tail blade tracking way out. I thought it was the belt making the noise but it was the tail blades out of track; all it takes to be out of track is a half a turn , and at High headspeeds it makes an awfull noise like the belt rubbing....
At first I thought that it did not matter about the tail blade tracking , I thought that there was no way that it could be out of track. It took me a long time to figure out what the tail noise was .
CHECK THE TAIL BLADE TRACKING.

I think your right about the tracking, I had forgotten untill last night that the links are adjustable and not a set length, I can see a slight vibration in the tail fin, thanks James

Changed the bearings, the blade side bearings inner race was a bit sloppy on the shaft and the other bearings inner race was showing traces of spinning on the shaft.

Changed the entire tail assembly, made sure the ball links were the same length, and the blades are the same weight.

Good news, with the proper tension on the belt there was no noise, and the tail no longer vibrates, the heli and pilot are

Thank you gentleman for the input and suggestions.
