My Aurora is done. I got the kit on Friday.

No missing parts, everything fit perfectly.

Very nice helicopter, the industrial raw metal look really works. The design has some very nice features, for example it's easy to get a neat wiring job on this model as there is space below the gear mounting tray. Also, no shortage of gear mounting space, plenty of places to run velcro.

The only note I would have on the build are to pay attention to the orientation of your bearing blocks and take the time to get the gear mesh right. Also, when running Futaba servo's, there's no way to get the 12.5-13mm length from the horn center as indicated. I just ended up using a standard "star" horn. My rod lengths were off from the book.

It builds very similar to a MA model and I consider it an intermediate level kit.

Later this week: flight report.

Then I would say that you are lucky and hope you enjoy your kit! So far my impressions are getting better, but not quite there yet!

I saw some of the meticulous machining and other fine work on Raptorwoodys' Aurora this evening.

Tail rotor hub machining tolerances were absolutely horrible. As you slide the radial bearings along the machined shafts, the fit goes from downright sloppy to an interference fit. The middle section of the thrust bearings (the cage with the balls) physically gets stuck on the shaft, and is not free to rotate.

There's a plastic piece on the tail boom for the bellcrank mount. Seems that the hole for the bolt that would hold the bellcrank is drilled at about a 30 degree angle, not perpendicular making the bellcrank mount pretty much useless.

Then there are missing bearings and missing bearing blocks.

After all the hype and the long long long wait "to get everything juuuuuuussssssst right", this was anything but.

I assume that if RW gets any satisfaction out of the apparent non-existent customer service end of the business, he'll end up with a nice looking, nice flying heli. But the trip to get there is not as much fun as it should be.

I have to admit that the tail rotor gearbox looked very well executed, but that's no reason to overlook the other obvious flaws in this one kit.

No customer support response after over 4 days of emails and pm's and missing parts!

Sorry to hear about your difficulty.
I wanted to investigate and I looked at the PMs here and I couldn't find any PMs from you. I also looked at the PMs on AvantRC.com and your name "raptorwoody"is not registered.

Can you tell me if they are under a different name on either of the websites? also please PM me what your e-mail address is because I also need to see if someone missed or not acted on your e-mail.

Also if you used e-mail to communicate and sent the e-mail on Friday evening and are counting those 4 days starting on Friday then I have to make you aware that people at the company won't see it until Monday and they will act on it starting today Monday. Sometimes there are replys during the weekend depending on what we are doing but that's not guaranteed. Also they normally don't immeditely reply to the e-mail. They simply act and reply with the delivery confirmation number so they don't have to communicate twice.

If you need to reach me please use the PM function in our support site AvantRC.com. It can take a couple of days to check PMs here.

Augusto.
