so i would go with speed rather than the tourqe??? even hammering on the cyclic when doing tic tocs, piro flips, etc??? i know there fast cause there set up in my 600n but for a 90 avant huh...i will take your guys word on it!!!!

I built my Aurora using 8717's and an 8V. Spektrum system, DX7. I have 6 gallons through the heli so far, and I have really noticed a lot of gear train play with the 8717's. Once you are powered up. about 3/4 of it is removed, but I did notice that the elev. servo has twice the play as pit. and ail. servos. IMO, the trim has become affected in flight by this gear train play...I'm looking for accurate smooth 3D flight, I'm not stick banging a lot. So I have removed those servos, and gone back to a Futaba 9155...196oz. at 6v., and using a Fromeco 5200 L-ion, Fromeco reg. I used this in a Stratus, and the servos held up much better in the play department. I spoke with a few factory guys using the 8717's, one has just replaced his gear sets at $30.00 per servo.

The cyclic and collective is so responsive on the Aurora, I'm trying to settle things down a bit, and have a real acccurate flying heli!

how long did you fly those before the play started happening??? ive had the 8717 on my 600n for some time now and have banged on the sticks daily for this whole summer so far and havnt noticed any play whats so ever.havnt even had to trim out....so now that im moveing up to 90s now will the bigger payload put a harder wear and tear on the servos??? thats why i ask if going with tourqe would be better rather than speed

I'm using the 8717's on my Vibe 50, must have around 6 gallons through that heli, there is some gear slop, but not as much as the Aurora. The 90's are simply harder on all equipment, higher loads, more vibration. I have 6 gallons through the Aurora, and I have decided to try my Futaba 9155's(192oz. at 6V/.13 speed) again to compare. It is recommended that you use metal gear servos on the Aurora in the active and super active head settings, due to larger loads on the servos. Augusto stripped some 9252's during testing, which are plastic geared.

There is a thread on the Avant site http://www.avantrc.com concerning servo speed vs. torque, a higher torque servos have been proven to maintain a better speed through its operating range when high loads are placed on them.

Augusto and many factory pilots tested servos over a yr. ago, they concluded that the higher torque felt better on the Aurora in 3D. These higher torque servos are not that slow! I feel that the 8717's on 8V. (250oz. at .05) may be over kill! It's all a personal feel.
