I am still painfully ignorant in the ways of the electric heli. My searches have not been able to answer my questions so I am looking for some advice.

I have a Logo 24 Bionic/Askman 360 that I want to do panos with. It has a Pletty 300/30/A3 with a 32.55K that is stretched to run 700mm blades. It is currently running 8S4P 8000 mah lipos and a 12 tooth pinion. After a few minutes of hovering today (95 degree day) the motor got very hot when fully loaded with camera, etc. so I know I need to do something different. Would going to 10S help? Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Wendell

You probably don't really need 8000Mah for shooting panos. It might pay to start by lightening the load and running lower Mah packs would certainly be a good start.

As for going 10S, I'm not sure of the ratings for the pletty and the shultz. Someone else could probably chip in here.

check on the ratings for the motor... if anything, increase the cell count and decrease the pinion tooth count... also check your headspeed to ensure you're flying at optimal headspeed... information that would help us more with your situation are:

What is the all-up-weight of the heli?
What headspeed is it flying at?
What speed controller and batteries are you flying with? By batteries, I mean make and model.. not just capacity and cell count.

Last year I had two L24's stretched with 710's with 360 mounts for pano work.

In my opinion you want 10s 4350 pack or even as low as 3700. Panos usually take no mare than 1-3 minutes to shoot. Carrying around more battery power than you need for one flight is counter productive.

8s is going to pull more amps than a 10s setup for the same all up weight. I had a Pletty in one but found it ran much hotter than my Actro's did.

Go up in voltage, run smaller capacity packs and you'll see your amp draw go down as well. You'll want to consider a motor change to lower kV. Somewhere around 500kV for 10s. I hear the new Scorpions are putting out plenty of power with low heat and they are very affordable.

BTW, I have 2 L24 airframes for sale now if you want some spare parts

The AUW is 12 lbs. 14 oz. I haven't tached the head yet but I would estimate it at around 1700. I am running TP Pro-lite LiPos.

I would also like to use the rig to shoot some video with the HC-5 so I guess I am looking for a compromise of sorts regarding flight times.

Maybe I could squeak by with an 11 tooth pinion?

Are you running those packs as two 4s4p's in series or two 8S2P's in parallel? Ideally you'd want them in 8s2p so that you can lighten the load for Pano work and then load up again if necessary for video... at least until you go 10S. Better that than reducing the life of the Pletty and having an in flight failure.

And as the others have mentioned going 10S will reduce the amps so it could be a worthwhile investment. If necessary you can always trade the Pletty and Shultze.
