Scale Model RC Helicopters > Eletric Mechs for Century Bell 222 .60???

OK, i got a whole lot of questions for veterans in scale helis. I have built 2 scale helis for a friend so far (.30 airwolf and a .90 md500 both for raptor nitros) Now it's the time to build one for me...

Here are the specs:
- Century Bell 222 .60 size
- Align T-Rex 600 Eletric mechanics with torque tube.
- Aerosound Sound Module System
- Vario Retracts
- JR DS8717 Servos
- Captron HeliCommand Rigid System
- Century 4 bladed CNC head and tail.

I decided to get a Century Bell 222 .60 size fuselage due to quality, details and price and extra size for cockpit. Due to the fact that i want a bird as realistic as possible to the real thing (with some exceptions), I will buy a non-painted version and add some external details from Vario and etc... I have witnessed the new Aerosound module in action and fell in love with it so i plan on getting that.

So for all those who have large Eletric helis, here's the question.

What motor, esc, battery and etc... setup would i have to get to be able to fly sport/scale with my fuse with no worries... keep in mind that i am going to put excess weight not to mention 4 bladed head and tail... What headspeeds should i run, gear ratios...

Why the 4 bladed head and tail? The 222 has a 2 bladed head and tail?

As far as setups, I'm building a 60 sized JetRanger based on TRex 600E mechs. I'm using a Tango 45-08 motor on 8S lipos (2 4S5000's in series), with a Century Predator head (minus all the flybar stuff) and OF 670 airfoil blades. Also, it has an OF swash (due to fuselage clearance), and some Vario parts in the head, an SK360 for stabilization and a CC-85HV ESC.

This combo should be good for 1400-1500HS with the TRex gearing. The AP guys are getting good flight times with 14lbs AUW with similar setups and symmetrical blades. Check out some of the AP threads on stretched TRex 600s for more info.

I have not yet flown mine. I was hoping to this week, but the ESC smoked on the first spoolup (first test, without blades, as soon as I moved the collective stick off the bottom - it never even turned the motor!), so I'm now waiting for a warranty replacement...

You will have to stretch the tail for a 60 size fuse. I had to do some fabrication, but with the 700s on the market now, that may be the way to go. As I understand, the tail drive components and boom are interchangeable with the 600...

I believe there is a 4-bladed version called the Bell 430, but I am not sure about the number of tailrotor blades!

The 430 does have a 4 blade main rotor, and a 2 blade tail. It is quite a bit different than the 222, especially in the upper doghouse area.

thanks, i'll keep u guys posted...

I know that the bell 222 has 2 bladed head and tail, and the bell 430 has the 4 bladed head but 2 bladed tail. I want the head and tail 4 bladed just to be diferent from other scale helis and i love the look of 4 blades spinning around...

Thank you RODAN, i'll be sure to check out sections on 600e and look into modding the mechs with 700 parts.

Believe me i will take my time into this project and get every info necessary before getting myself into expensive trouble. When i start the build i will also start a build topic to post my work as i get into it.

To each his own, but considering the expense you are going to, it would seem somewhat foolish to deviate from scale practice. It might be better to have typed " I want the head and tail 4 bladed just to be diferent from other helis and i love the look of 4 blades spinning around..." rather than " I want the head and tail 4 bladed just to be diferent from other scale helis and i love the look of 4 blades spinning around..."

When it's all said and done it is your heli, so just have fun.

I'm almost finished with a Hirobo 60 sized Bell 222 (which is the same as Century's and Funkey's, I think) on a stretched, flybarless T-Rex 600.

Spinning 710mm main blades realistically with a very low HS of less than 1000 rpm. Power system is a Z50 780KV brushless, Turnigy 100A esc running on 6S 9000MAH lipos (2 x 4500MAH 6S hooked up in parallel). Futaba GY401 on tail and pitch cyclic, JR G460T on roll.

Flies like a dream with ample power in spite of the low HS, and will do it non-stop for 20 mins, using up abt 7000MAH. Motor, esc and batts remains barely warm and unstressed throughout.

Right now I'm completing the interior scale details, abt 80% done at this point.
