I personaly think the EP8 EX is so much better than the Trex 500 , it comes 3D ready right out of the box , no upgrades to buy . Everything is all metal ,the quality is 10 times better than the trex500. I have been flying the EP8 EX for a couple of years and the EP8 Sportsman longer. The quality is unsurpassed.
Parts support in the USA is from Harrold Little at http://www.helicopterhobbies.com/ . Awsome man to deal with . The parts prices are about the same as the Trex500 .

Anybody else with some info for this man ? I hope he may be getting one from me in a trade so my opinion may be a little biased..
Welcome to Quick of Japan EDD EDDIE EDWARD!! If you have any specific questions, I will be glad to answer them as best as I can .
I have been flying the QoJ helis for quite a while now and I pretty much know all of the ins and outs with the QoJ electric line of helis . I love the QoJ helis so much that I have sold or traded off all of my other helis and just fly the QoJ`s . They are the smoothest helis that I have had the pleasure to fly.
The EP8`s fly best with 6 cell lipos IMO , but can be flown from 4 cells to 9 or more cells.

the 500 has a driven tail, the EX doesnt. the 500 weighs a little more. You cant purchase the 500 new unless you get thier motor and esc with it, this can be good and bad. The 500 has a propreitery tail boom diameter, where the EX can use most 21mm booms cut down from larger nitro birds. The smaller diameter of the 500 tail boom is in my theory the reason alot of guys are having static issues. The 500 has a torque tube upgrade kit as an option. I cant really compare flight characteristics as Ive never flown a 500. The 500 wins when it comes to popularity, the EX is quite unique, and the head and tail peices are works of art.

So its a nice

It Will fly just as good as a Rex I had a Lepton and Love it I thought I could kick a T-Rex 500 in the but, I put it up next to a Rex and the rex look like a tank compared to mine I was ready to do the put up and shup up thing but I sold it before I could I didnt want to sell it but ran into money needed thing so Im back looking for a 500 size and if this is easy to get parts and flys really well I guess im sold ... any other flaws or upgrades needed ? put in your 2 sents on anything Thanks Eddie

My opinion is still biased ,but this is the most awsome heli that I have ever flown. There are no upgrades needed for 3D or aerobatic flight. In fact , QoJ does not even sell any upgrades for the EP8 line, they do ,however, sell "option" parts. They have a tail mounted servo mount, a phase adjustable head(not needed IMO), a gyro mount that goes over the tail boom blocks(also not needed IMO).
The heli is an all precision CNC aluminum head and tail, all precision Japanese ballbearings. There are a few modifications that we QoJers have come up with to improve the heli a little more. Course the heli realy don`t need any improvements , it is right on right out of the box... If you want any specific pictures just ask and I will post them for you . Any questions and I will answer them as best I can .

i fly the ep-8 SP v2 this is the sportman version not the EX. It is unbelievably smooth and really well engineered.
It is good for sports aerobatic flight and can be pushed to mild 3D but was never intended for this

If you want 3D get an ep-8 EX or an ep-9

these helis are solid - build quality is absolute tops ...but they aren't the lightest machines out there.

I love mine - for my type of flying it's perfect

Good thing about these heli's is ease of maintenance.
Head comes off in under a minute and so does the boom.
Simple design that just plain works.
If you get the EX, buy the EP9 boom, pushrod and belt.
That way you can safely run all the 425mm carbon blades.
The stock boom IMO is just a tad short, and I will not risk tic tocs and backflips the way mine is.

Jimbo is 1000% correct in steering you to 6s lipo. Dont bother with anything under 5s if you intend to 3d it.

With some small collars and washers added to the mixing levers, Im getting 12 deg pitch and an easy 8 deg cyclic for ail end ele, no binding.
Get the headspeed up over 2700 and watch it wake up.
Very fast in forward flight and tracks well.

I personally would like stiffer head damping, and am going to try the QJ rigid damper option.

6s 2500 will get you about 4.5mins 3d or 8 mins of hovering. FFF will get you about 6 mins with a few flips thrown in.

These are an older design now, but they just plain work.
The Trex is a porker and the QJ is no different lol. BUT there is some things you can do to lighten it up, which cant really be said for the TRex. How can you lighten a heli that is already carbon?

If you bling it, they will come :D

I can't compare directly to other 500 sized helis, but the kit is very impressive, and goes together well. The heli is very stable and a joy to fly.

I am not to the point of doing 3D, but it is my favorate flying heli at this time.

IMO< you will not regret one. They are truely the unsung heli.
