Weight of the heli really depends on your flying style. For lots of pops and locks and fast tight transitions, a light heli is great. But for bigger sky stuff and a heli that fights the wind better, the little extra weight is good to have.

I agree - mainly because I do more of a pattern aircraft type flying, and being able to fight the wind is useful. Not getting knocked around is a good thing.

I secretly wonder if I'm becoming more of an FAI pilot...

I'm unquestionably sold on the Synergy's quality. But I also like the lighter weight of the Trex700 (about 1 lb less). That makes a huge difference in performance and feel in the sky.

I'm callin BS, has anyone actually weighed a 700 and an N9 with the same gear in?? I've picked up each, side by side at the field and there ain't nowhere near a pound in it......

My N9 3 451's 91SR Hatori 937 Solid G/9251 Align 2 in 1 2x1900mah

My friends 700N 351's 91ST Hatori 937 GY611/BLS251 Align 2 in 1 1x 1900mah

Both running Radix 710's (SB's on mine Std'd on his) and Radix 105 tails and SuperStubz

I would say 4oz max..... and i'm running 2 batteries!

Not to be an smart mouth, but while you boys are busy getting out your gram scales the rest of us are out flying.

Now... that I said that, I am a weight conscious freak too. But many years experience has taught me in helicopters the magic is in the head, NOT the weight of the machine. Take Matt Botos flybarless machine. It is TONS hotter than any Aurora or 700N or anything else there is or ever will be with a flybar. Weight is not an issue as long as it is not excessive.

I have more power than my friend with his 700N and we are both running Radix 710's and both have YS91 SR's and Hatori's. We both agree my engine is stronger. The reason is my N9 has more power and pop and he is supposedly lighter than me. Who cares. Go fly. He bought a 700N becase it is cheaper to fly and maintain. Everyone knows N9's are the best looking heli out there. The huge thread in the main section proves that. Ask him which heli he wants if prices were equal. Weight is NOT everything.

I'm merely quoting 2nd hand information from specs on paper. If it is wrong, it's wrong.

Heh, but it sure helps.

So... drawing the line for weight is relative to the pilot.

He bought a 700N because it is cheaper to fly and maintain.
If he fly's hard 3D for 12 consecutive months it will be interesting to see how the parts wear. I am expecting 700n owners to spend a fair amount replacing worn parts over 12 months or less with hard 3D. The 600n wears a bit poorly.

Hmm, well I've flown 300 flights since March this year. I'd say I'm getting out there alright.

Sam wasn't a personal BS call, just a general industry one!!

By being a pound lighter the 700N would have to be missing its engine!!

One thing I've learned, and it applies to pretty much every industry:

Don't trust the manufacturer's specs. They're usually "enhanced" to get the sale.

On the weight issue, anyone notice Colin Bell's flights at the XFC this year? My personal opinion only, but that machine looked pretty darn good and it's heavier than the new 700 and probably the new MA as well. A LOT of what makes a heli look spectacular is the guy at the sticks. There will be a bunch of 700N's out there that look great and a lot that look so so and I'm pretty sure it's not because one weighs a pound more than the other.

I do have to say, with most any flying machine, weight is everything.

I agree with you. I would like to know how much the Trex 700 owners will spend too. The point is that Trex is so cheaper that the owners seems that they doesn't pay attention in the fragility. I have seen some trex crashes due to mechanical failure but the owners don't believe that it happened due to the quality of the parts.

By the way, the gears of Synergy should be a little bit cheapper... Just a little...
