Main Discussion > 8U and PCM Reciever

I have been using an 8U with my electric heli using an FM (ppm) receiver for a few months now with no problems. Recently I bought a PCM receiver switched the crystal to match my Tx ...switched the Tx to pcm mode (yup I turned it on and off), nothing works. My gem 2000 is flashing like crazy so Im assuming that power is not an issue, but I get very little if any movement when I plug the servo(s) and none of this movement is in response to the TX...

Anyone else had any problems like this or am I doing something completely wrong?

Was the "new" freq within the limits of the recever?

If you have to change the the set-up of that model in your radio to PCM. ON your normal screen it will tell you what mod the model is in. It will say PPM or PCM. Does it say it's in pcm.

The original freq for the receiver was 53 the new one is 58, could this be the problem? The tx is definately in pcm.

The change from 53 to 58 should not make a differance What is the model number of the PCM reciver you are using.

Questions

A few questions...

1. What brand / model FM receiver were you using? If it was a Futaba, then it is most likly a dual conversion receiver (such as the 127DF, 128 DF or the 148DF). If it was a diffrent type, it could have been a single conversion receiver. A single conversion crystal will not work in a PCM receiver.

2. What brand / model of PCM receiver are you using? Futaba has two types of PCM, and they ARE NOT the same. The current type is PCM 1024. Some of the receivers that are PCM 1024 are the 129DP, 138DP, 148DP and 149DP. The older type is PCM 512. This was used on the older 8SG systems and in the 5NLP. The receiver that uses the older PCM 512 is the 128DP and there are a couple others, but I dont know the numbers for them. If the receiver is a different brand, such as Hitec, JR or Airtronics, their PCM receivers WILL NOT work with Futaba PCM 1024.

3. What brand of crystal were you using and what did it come out of? As stated above, they are not all the same.

Let us know what you are using and we can help you out. -Steve

The receiver is Futaba 1024pcm...Im not sure of the exact model # as it is not in front of me, I bought it new from Ricks 2 weeks ago. I have tried another set of Futaba xtals..channel 38 no luck from them either. Yes they are dual conversion.

Lets get some more Info so we can help you

we now know that you have a new receive that should work.

We know that the 8U should operate everthing.

New question what servo are you using?

New Question what switch are you using?

The Reason I ask these question is only futaba are Keyed to fit these receivers. if you are using EXPERT OR HITEC or any other brand of servos or switches they can be plugged in bacward (reverse polarity) in which case nothing works properly.

The servos are Futaba 9202's and a 9253 for the tail..The battery pack is a JR 1400mah..the switch is Futaba. I dont need a module or anything for the TX do I...Im pretty logical and this one is way beyond me.

PCM

I don't really have a clue on how the 8U is, but if it supports the "old" PCM could it be that it is set to the wrong kind of PCM?

The JR 8103 supports both ZPCM (the old way) and SPCM which is the new kind of PCM. (In JR terms)

Just a thought

Hi,

If the reciever has a dsc (direct servo connect plug) make sure you did'nt accidently plug a servo (or anything else with a white signal wire into it) into it. Try unhooking the gem and see if it works. Unplug everything but one servo and one battery or switch plug, kiss.

The 8u only supports 1024 pcm.

Crunch all you want, they will make more. Please use rr's pm feature to contact me.
