Crashed? Discussion and Photos > Idle up bit my Raptor?

OK... So I was flying Friday practicing loops (did my first loops three tanks ago!) First tank of the day I pulled off 10 -12 loops a few close calls but doing pretty good and feeling confident. Second tank of the day continued to work on more loops, toward the end of the tank I brought the bird in for a look at the fuel level, switched into normal, hovered for a few minutes and noticed that I had about 1/8th of a tank left so off I went to do a few circuits and then entered a low altitude loop ( I was feeling cocky ) Pulled back on the elevator and droped then collective when it was inverted..... OH SH$T I can't hear my engine, its dropping like a rock . Full throttle and THWACK! Raptor hit the dirt at a 45 degree angle going pretty fast

Here is the damage:
Landing Gear
Canopy
servo tray
main frames
tail boom
TR rod guides
Boom Supports
Main Shaft
Blades
Spindle
fly bar
double links
elevator a-arm
Receiver Switch
etc....

Now, the engine never quit but went to idle when I went inverted. So I figured I didn't switch into idle up, but after the crash I noticed that the idle up was turned on.... I just don't know if I switched into idle up when I a paniced or the engine just died? But it certainly seemed like I wasn't in idle up.

Here is the carnage:

Ouch, just be thankful it wasn't a Fury Extreme... I'm still looking at all the parts... and the bill...

Flying aeros with 1/8 of a tank is good way to stop your engine in the worst possible place, too...my Raptor is out of action at the moment for exactly that reason

Dave, my feelings exactly! Although, with the header, you should have been ok. Jerry, a sure fire method to prevent the no idle-up situation, is to be on the ground, ready to lift off. Half stick, switch in. Pull the stick back some to see if throttle increases, if so, you're in baby!

I discovered another interesting way of trying to crash helis over the weekend, I managed to hit the hold switch instead of the idle-up when moving into FF. Considering the idle-up is actuated with my left hand and the hold with the right, this took a considerable lack of coordination! My corrective action was a little quicker, thank goodness.

It's always those last flights, I stop flying before my last flight now.

Glad I'm not the only one! Felt pretty stupid, I mean left hand, right hand...you'd think if I can build and fly helis I could tell which was which! At least I haven't got the sticks muddled up yet! Strange thing was I thought 'idle-up' but the wrong hand reacted. Must be getting old faster than I thought I was!

i had a pretty close call today. i was double flipping my rappy then all of the sudden the tail doesn;t hold any more it just went to the left(from the back) but i managed to level up the heli by the time i leveled it up the heli was over my head i couldn't really c it. its like the heli was behind me all i can c was the nose of the canopy and nose facing the ground so i pulled the elevator and give it some throttle and got it back in front of me at eye level then i started flying a little more and walk back to the pit. the only weird thing was no one thought i almost lost it ,they all thought it was part of the act !!

Oh..shiiieeettt !!!

I changed my broken trainer switch to a non spring return item -not reccomended.
I was doing a auto at the end of the tank after a buddy had been practising on the buddy cord, getting a little untidy during the bottom of the decent so switch off the hold and go around , alas no, I had no control and in it went with me trying to bend the sticks out of the tx.
I had switched the trainer switch on rather than the hold off, - buggar

Got a question...

Bob,
are you going to order new parts or just order a whole new kit? I wonder what the price difference is. I did that once and got so mad I just ordered a new kit and kept the good parts.
Thanks

Guilty of that too, the first day I was really trying loops I actually thought you could easily do them in normal (goes to show how some things in G2 just dont translate at all.) Took it up, nice and high, pulled back....vertical coming into inverted....ease collective down to zero pitch....engine idles (or near to it).....,heli falls barrel-rolling before turning nose to the ground @ about 55 MPH, all happened within about a second, somehow managed to bring power back on and pulled up, but thats definitely the closest I've ever came to crashing without actually doing the deed.

Idle-Ups kick ass!
