Main Discussion > Dave Yost Paint Jobs: What Colors are these?

madHelizHeliman - Location: USA -
Ok... I am hoping someone out there in cyberspace can help. Attached is a picture of a Dave Yost paint job. I am trying to find out what exact color he uses for the yellow and orange on it. I am pretty sure they are House of Kolor paints, but I need to know what paint number/colors they are.

Thanks!!!

Yes they are red and yellow. He uses House of Kolor and what I need is the exact House of Kolor colors.

Dave is an AWESOME painter, probably the best canopy painter out there. But alas he no longer paints canopies... and even when he did he had a year waiting list.

The closest one I found to that was the HOK Persimmon Pearl or something like that. Don't go with the HOK Neon Yellow unless you are painting over white. Use the Lemon Yellow color.

HOK, paint. PPG, clear coat. For color you may have to visit Wall Mart to match the paint. They sell HOK in small containers and they should have a paint chart.

I have the paint chart... thats the problem. Pics are not always that accurate. Plus when combining colors its real hard to determine.

I was hoping someone around here actually knew what was used. Many of Dave's paint jobs all used similar schemes and thus the same paint colors.

Just wondering why you need the "exact color" Do you have to touch up one of his canopies. If you are trying to just match the colors from a picture then try to get a color chart and match it as close as possible. Most likely your computer monitor isnt callibrated for exact colors and the canopie in real life isnt the same. Alot of us custom painters use our own special mix wich you cant find on a shelf for sale.

Actually, my monitor is calibrated... I am a photographer and designer so I know my colors are accurate. However I have seen the canopy in person so I am familiar with what it looks like for real.

I know Dave personally and I know he mainly used HOK as I do aswell. If you have the HOK color chart it should be pretty straight forward. If you are a designer colors should be easy for you. Still dont understand why you need the "EXACT COLOR".

Well at best I think the colors are this:
SG103 Molly Orange
NE508 Chartreuse Neon

The reason I want the exact colors is because I am anal... I loved the shades of those colors. I figure if I am spending close to $1000 on paint for my canopies I want to be sure I get exactly what I want.

Sorry to be so pushy, but I didnt think what I was asking was a big deal.

Even if your monitor is calibrated, the camera probably was not? And if it was an sRGB camera, most of these saturated colors will fall out off the color gamut of sRGB.. and then most browsers do not show colors properly (using firefox here and to my knowledge firefox does not show colors correctly. Safari does a better job).

Yes I know... which again is why I want to know what colors Dave uses. I saw the canopy in person and I like the colors. So using the picture doesnt help me, as you know. So please if anyone knows what colors these are, please let me know.

If I was doing a knock off of that canopy,I wouldn't use Shimrin Graphic Colors.

Slightly off topic but is it just me or is there no "A" on Aurora?
