Main Discussion > OS 46 and the Sceadu question

Now that I am the owner of a brand new Sceadu 50 I have a question regarding installation of the OS 46 in this machine. I had wanted to put in my TT46 initially since this motor was already broken in and runs GREAT (really GREAT) BUT the front nose piece does not come off. (for those of you that know the Sceadu the nose piece needs to come off so the clutch/fan adapter piece will fit further down to allow installation of the prop nut) The clutch/fan adapter will screw on the crankshaft but without that nose piece coming off there are only 1 or 2 threads showing on the crank tip when it's fully threaded on. This will not allow installation of the prop nut.

The question I have is this: will the nose piece come off on the OS46? I checked the manual on OS' website and looked at the exploded view. It appears the part is removeable. (see image)

However a detailed pic of the OS 46 shows it similar to my TT46 in this area (see attached pic with the arrow pointing to the noted area)

On my OS61 this aluminum nose piece is keyed and comes off. (it needs to or the fan sits too high) Please refer to this excerpt from the Sceadu manual

If anyone can clarify this issue please let me know. I am getting conflicting information and since i don't have the engine (OS46) in front of me I am unsure. Also is anyone knows how to remove the nose piece from the TT46 that would help too. From what I can see (and as the above picture shows) it won't come off easily.

Thanks,

Jeff

P.S. if the pics didn't load properly they should be in my gallery for your viewing pleasure

note: before you all tell me I'm nuts for using the 46 instead of the 50 my reasoning is that :
1. being on a budget I don't want to spend the extra $65 for the 50 (I'm cheap, what can I say)
2. fuel economy is better with the 46
3. I don't really need the blistering power the 50 has (yeah, yeah I know more power is good)
4. I plan on using the stock 570mm blades that came with the machine (again my thriftyness shows)
5. I personally think the 46 will run fine
6. just so you all don't think I am completely scrimping I do have a GY-401 and S9253 from heli-hut on order to put in it

I'm pretty sure that the OS46 will be a straight fit..... Afterall the OS50 has the same mounting/shaft dimensions as the OS46.

Good luck!

I have a spare OS 46 that I'm pondering on putting in something. I have a Sceadu 50 and love it.
I have thought of getting another heli and putting the 46 in. The century Raven 30 I have is very nice and I might go that route in 46/50 size or the Falcon SE2. Nice quality parts in those.

I think you'll be very pleased with the performance of the 46 in a Sceadu and the 570 blades or even 600's. You should be able to use 100% throttle on 600's but probley not on the 570's.

Enjoy
