Guys,

Please note that I too had the same problem everyone else is talking about. It appears that during the machining process the edge of the cut became slightly flared. This will not allow your shim to fully seat.

What you need to do is lightly file the edge line just next to the heat treat area.

This will now look smooth. It doesn't take very much. There are very tight tolerances between shim and main shaft.

Now you should be able to fully seat your shim. The .8mm shim was perfect on my TREX 700.

Have fun and fly hard.

Good stuff, I like the idea of the shim seating properly instead of thinning the shim if that is indeed the problem. As far as heli problems/fixes go Id say this is a pretty minor one. Can't wait to get my 700N!

Personally i would chamfer the ID edge of the shim, don't like the idea of a sharp non-filletted radius at a major stress point!!!!

I didn't change the shim in any way. 100% stock shim. I didn't add any sharp points. You only need to file the flared edge on the main shaft. I totally agree that you don't want to add any stress risers here.

It's hard to see, but it appears they have left some clearance for that edge.

Mine was a little tight so I loosed the bearing blocks and let everything re-seat with the smallest shim. Mine did fit using this method without any modifications.

OK appreciate that, just have a fear of some pilots filing into the mainshaft!!

Personally i would modify the shim, that way you only need to rework once, not every time you change the shaft, just my 2 cents.
