Let it go dood... The extent of your arachnid knowledge comes from Encyclopedia Britannica. I actually studied them for a few years, had several pet spiders and read several books on them.

Also, your photoshopped pic proves nothing, as it is only an estimate. Large wolf spiders are more common than you think.

When I lived in Austin, I came a cross a wolf spider 2-3" for the body and the legs where just as long. At first I thought it wasnt a wolf. But that baby could book. After I smashed it I took another look, it looked like the others, but just fricken huge. Also when I lived in there, I found a black Widow about 1 1/2"-2" for the body yuck! Things are just bigger in Texas

Heh, that looks like the guy I saw last night on our porch. He asked me If I had a cigarette. Big friggin spider!!
They sure are neat looking. I call them Thor spiders because they look like our late kitty Thor. Brown and light brown and furry with stripes. My fiancee wanted me to kill him but i didn't want to, i told her he eats the bugs that kill her flowers.
I wouldn't want one crawling on me but they sure do look cool.

BE carefull. They like damp dark places like under toilet seats. Something else could look like that photo of a thumb if you dont look before you sit. Just something to think about

We where doing manuvers in penalton Ca in the field and we had all stopped waiting for the point man and had taken a knee I saw one of the Marines behind me shoo somthing I looked over and it was one the size of a small dinner plate. Freeked him out a little.

I had a small wolf spider in the garage killing flies in a corner. He did a pretty good job so the heli could be worked on..lol

You guys have absolutely DESTROYED ME!!!!

I can't stand spiders big, small, doesn't matter. I have to get my wife to kill them for me

I'm glad I live in canada, because if I had to deal with those big **S monsters I'd be livin' in a bubble (heli bubble boy)

I would love to not be freaked of them, but I don't know what to do, anyone here get over the fear? I don't mind looking at them really, but every time I enter a room, I do a quick scan to see if there are any around, and I can spot them anywhere!! My wife thinks I have super vision.....

NO SOUP FOR YOU!!

My sister used to be deathly afraid of spiders. Just the sight of one was enough to send her into a panic. One day, I introduced her to George, my Chaco Tarantula. Of course, she was instantly panicked upon seeing this "monster". A few weeks later, she came over with her son. He was very intrigued by George and wanted to handle the spider. She was much more calm this time around. While watching her son handle and pet George, she became more intrigued than frightened.

I went on vacation for a week and took George to their house so her son would take care of him. When i came back, my sister didn't want me to take George back! She had grown attached to him and his personality. Now, she still doesn't like spiders (for the most part), but she really fell in love with George. He really was a character, he loved to spill his water dish promptly after it was filled. He loved to crawl up your arm and just hang out on your shoulder and play with your hair. The best part of George was his playfulness. He loved to play "footsie" with your fingers. I sure miss that little guy... Hmmm... I wonder if I can convince my wife that we need another pet.

When I lived in the florida keys...scorpions is what we had to tend with.

Funny story...while in the keys...

Was steering a three wheeler ATV with a passenger down an unriden path that day when all of a sudden this huge spider (unknown) on this huge web approaches me at a fast speed and when I ducked...hits wife on chest (yes...she was passenger and to this day I'm still paying for it)

I really don't mind looking at them, not even up close, as long as they are "contained". Once they are free to roam around freely.....well there's a problem

I feel bad, because I've gotten my daughter afraid of them too because of me, and she's only 2 1/2. I don't want to make her all retarded like me about them.....

I lived in florida when I was younger, and I remember the scorpions and snakes (not to mention, a couple of aligators). I don't mind them too much....

I'm sorry funflyer I didn't mean to do that. I'm afraid of em too and respect the hell out of em, just that the topic reminded me of a few encounters with them in Florida. some of them are huuuughe!!

but I hear tell that if you explain to them that it was an accident you ran thru them, they'll leave ya alone
