Radio - Servo - Gyro - Gov - Batt > Futaba GY401 repair cost ???

I was interested if anyone on RR has had a GY401 repaired by Futaba services. The reason I ask is after the cost of shipping ($5), return shipping ($9.99), minimum service charge $15, If the average repair cost is $50 plus the shipping charges it will be $60 to $70 dollars. Anything above that I will buy a new one since I want to try the JR ringgyro.
Any comments will be appreciated.
Thanks

It really depends on the parts (as in spare parts) being repaired. I once had my 9254 servo repaired... and really, it didn't seem to be all that totalled (movement was rough), but the repairs cost me about half of a new servo. I wasn't happy, since the servo was less than a year old.

My friend, OTOH, had a faulty transmitter module (only a small fault, the module wouldn't function if the batteries were too fresh off the charger). He tried getting a local repairman to repair it, but after months of trying it was never fixed properly. Then he got it repaired at Futaba, and it ended up costing only around $20, with S&H. It was around 3 years old.

My conclusion is that there really is no guideline. You also won't know the cost until Futaba tells you.

Gentlemen, the GY401 is many times not cost effective to repair if there is crash damage. The internal boards are the main cost of the gyro, and if replaced, the costs would far outweigh a brand new gyro.

The reason that any gyro repair would be over $100.00 is if the gyro is beyond repairing and we offer an exchange for a new one.

we always send our customers an estimate, if it is more than they would like to pay, we then return the item to them unrepaired. we always leave the decision up to our customer.

Thank you for your input from the repair centers viewpoint and experience. It's nice to see manufacturer's representatives are looking at this forum.
