Sir, you sure are going to love HH gyros if you haven't flown them before. May I suggest a Futaba GY 401 it will hold the tail fine for someone at your skill level and will take a few years to outgrow.

Get you a set of woodies to start with until you get the machine built setup tested and proven for a few flights. Then I suggest you put them away until you need to test the machine again after a crash. Thats all they are good for period well except a live grenade range can you tell I hate woodies???? I personally can speak for TT and Centurys wood blades being acceptable as far as they are close enough in weight to be able to be balanced. I cannot speak for audacity s and mavrikk woodies. The mavrik Patriots and G4 standards are the same blade I am flying a set of the patriots on my 30 as we speak I do not need the high dollar blades for it, all I use it for is a FFF cruiser and inverted hover orientation trainer. I can speak for the quality of mavrik blades as far as blancing they have balanced better than most of my 100$$ carbons. I would also consider the composite SWE's. I plan on trying them both the carbon and the composites but the passing of my father has put my heli hobby on hold until next flying season. Audacity sets the benchmark in this hobby for customer service John you are the man. Sir, you made a good choice by choosing audacity enjoy your Pantera.

Its not a maneuver until your looking down on it. ~Jason Krause~ Phoenix FF 08

When a customer speaks so highly of us it's both a humbling experience and reminds us of the importance of our efforts.

Meanwhile, I'll share these kudos with the team because as I'm sure you know, there's no "i" in team. Eg, we all work hard to make things happen and I am only the front man for the operation. Thanks again!

try buying a 50 hyper for this amount. The savings will more than pay for the Big Beast Conversion from Audacity.

Actually Harold, as I'm sure you know, that first one is not an OS Max 61SX-H engine. Looks more like a OS Max 61SFN-H version instead (based on the picture). While they're great engines, I'm not sure if they are a bolt in, so treat this as a heads up. By the way, I've seen 61SX engine complete with a Hatori muffler trading hands for 35 bucks, so you're quite right to be pointin out these deals to folks.

Good catch John. If the the Gent wants to spend a few more dollars, There is a YS-80 on Ebay for $165.00. Same price as a new Hyper 50 but with torque that dosen't end.

Okay, now it is official. My Pantera arrived today in good shape. I went over everything in the box, and from what I can tell by a quick check here in my office, it is complete. There are a couple of things I may end up replacing (John, I'm working on a list...expect an order from me ) Someone has done some assembly other than the factory assembly. This is what I've found thus far: Flybar looks like someone used pliers to screw paddles on or off, as there are some skuff marks; Drive Gear 2 (tail drive) is not sitting square to the main gear. (It may be warped, but it definately ain't tracking straight); I went ahead and bought the no-name blades from him. (Remember, I'm just getting back into wet machines, so basic hovering and getting into FF is all that is on my agenda, so even no-name Carbons will be better than woodies for now.) They are in good shape, no nicks, scrapes, blushed spots, bubbles, de-laminations etc...just need accurate weighing, balancing and some tracking tape or holographic "bling" and they'll be good for hovering around in the front yard of the Army Reserve Center here in Lewes.

Next purchase will be the engine (and I guess I'll get a dial indicator too, to get the hub on). Once I get the power plant mounted, I can start planning my servos and gyro purchases.

I'm so excited!!!

Watch those no name carbons. They have a history of tearing out at the hole where they attach to the blade grips so the damage is easily hidden until it's too late. You may get no warning of an impending failure. Just remember us suggesting you not fly those blades. They worry me even for hovering (you'll be the closest to yourself).

Jon,

Be sure to go over what was assembled carefully, I noticed that the skids in your picture are on backwards. The seller may have done this for shipping purposes....or maybe not.

Check each step carefully to make sure all is well. Everyone here has been great in helping me with my Pantera. Feel free to ask questions anytime.

Enjoy!

Actually....looking at the picture again it appears that they have not been attached yet. just be sure to flip them around first.

Build the ship per the online instructions and you will have a blast.
Once you get her up and flying. The tweaking is the fun part.
To tell all of you. I get a Pantera box and tear things down to "kit" form. Not that the ARF will fly. I just like to blue print the ship. Trust me on this...I have Four Panteras and several Tigers.
All flew great out of the box.

I've done some research on these no-name blades and found out where they are from...our good friend Paul Macha (Aeroomni). The blades came in a cardboard box with Veronika Racakova in Santa Barbara, CA as the return address, but with a Spanish postmark. Looking around here on RR, I found out that Veronika is part of Paul's team, and there are a lot of p!ssed-off folks here on RR about his blades, as well as other antics (I knew about his crap from his other posts, but didn't know he was screwing people with blades too).

I can't blame the guy I bought them from either, as he did not know where they were from the scheister Paul Macha.

Anyway, I should have listened to you all, but without any external markings or any distinguishing features on the blades it was hard to make the choice...and I chose bad.

I'm going to turn lemons into lemon aid with them. Gonna mount them to a plaque and display them. They'll be a reminder to buy only known brands of blades.

Everybody tries to save a buck, it's human nature. Anyway, you won't be the last . . . but you certainly have the right can-do attitude about it, which in my opinion marks the kind of people who go far in life. Hang in there pal.

JB: I've got the best heli on the market right now, I ain't gonna let a set of $50 paint stirrer POS blades get me down.

Now if I can just get a couple of things sold, I'll place that order with you (to include a set of blades )

I agree with J.B., what a great attitude! Very unique and refreshing. Now stick some good blades on that baby and go fly!!!

Ya'know, you have to have a good attitude in this hobby. I d!cked up a brand new Mezjlik 23x8 prop on my IMAC bird on the maiden flight. That was a $60+ prop and it'll never fly again. (When I messed that prop up, it also pulled the engine off the firewall, and destroyed the cowl. I just walked away from it for a little while, enjoyed watching the rest of the guys fly until sunset (I was at a contest) then one of my buddies gave me a Beam & Coke and we went to gluing everything back together.) It is now stronger than it was, but I'm still out a CF prop, a cowl and some graphics. But ya'know, if you want to play with these toys, you gotta be ready to pay to keep going.

I've been flying R/C since 1982. I've spent enough to probably own my dream plane, and get my ratings through commercial multi, but I like the models better.

I told the guy I bought the blades from about Paul M. and his "Quality Blades" and he offered me a full refund. So, those blades are going back and I'm gonna order a set from John.

Well, my Pantera is nearing completion.

I got a chance to install my cyclic servos this weekend and do some baseline programming on the radio. My 401/9254 is on the way (thanks RayFernandez), and I got my battery/regulator (Fromeco 2600 w/ Deans plug and Arizona regulator) yesterday (Thanks MartyH), along with my throttle and (in the future) mixture servo too (Thanks Frank).

One of our Pantera buddies from RunRyder is sending me a set of 1mm shims so I can mount my blades (I have a set of Audacity woodies, and they are 12mm root, the Pantera needs 14 mm root blades). Once I get them on, I'll work on the rest of the radio set up and pitch curves etc...

Oh yeah, I got a Revolution base loaded antenna for it, and mounted it using one of the antenna tube mounts on the skids. It doesnt point straight forward, but that is okay. I can work up an angled spacer later that straghtens that out. Makes no difference, other than aesthetics.

If I can ever remember to take my camera to my workshop, I'll get pics to post.

I'll be out of town for Labor Day weekend (going to STL to visit), so no work will get done. I don't like to rush things anyway. I have a Wild Hare Edge 540T that took me 4 years to get in the air...and it's an ARF!!!
