Nothing, either my engine mixture control was set or i just didnt do something right, but even when I leaned it out and temp went over 100 deg it never went rich. Can anyone walk me through setup to make sure i did it right?

It sounds like your sensor is bad - common problem. You can easily damage them during install too, especially if not 100% cured before use. What did you mount it with?

how can it be dmg i i just dropped some thermal expoxy and slid it in till it hit the head, the light on side for sensor is on does that mean its working?

Not necessarily, do a search, the sensors are VERY fragile. You have to be very gentle with them or they fail and can even be DOA. I had one of those myself.

In my experience they don't since they can't be sure you were not too rough during the install but you can try it. Most guys are buying sensors 2 or 3 at a time.

When I installed my first sensor, I screwed up.

I installed it with the engine in the heli. I should have held it in place while it cured, but I noticed it sorta stayed in place, so I got lazy.

Well it didn't work, so I removed the engine and found out that since I had the heli on it's side, the sensor cured at an angle due to the wire hanging off the back. The sensor was not up against the combustion chamber at all, and there was no epoxy around the sensor.

So with the engine out, I tried a second sensor. I made sure the sensor was flush against the combustion chaamber. Then after it cured, I put some more epoxy around the sensor to make sure it had good thermal conductivity.

This one worked fine.

Also, make sure you are thinking the correct direction when you adjust the needle. Sometimes you might think you are going the right way, but you are doing it backwards. If the needle is hard over to the right, lean, and will not come off of lean, then remove the control lever, lean it a few clicks, and replace the control lever.

If it is hard over to the left in the rich position, this is bad. It is trying to richen it up and can't get it rich enough. You are too lean. Remove the control lever, richen it a few clicks, and return the control lever.

well even if its not completely against the engine the thermal epoxy should transfer the heat to sensor

I had my sensor died after i install it, same as Rockohaulic i just installed it with the engine still in the heli.

A few flights later with no movement of the servo, i decided to remove the engine for inspection. turns out there was a gap between sensor and heatsink, it might have shifted out of place during curing phase or i could have simply not positioned it well enough.

I know this is a stupid question but how do you know it went over 100C? Are you sure it wasn't 100F?

Turn on the radio gear the mixture servo should be in the most lean position then unplug the sensor from the carb smart control board & the servo should return to the centre position if it does then the senor is OK & you have not set it up properly with the end points etc.

i think it may be a setup issue the servos does nothing, and if the temp on the carbsmart if is in C not F then yeah that could be an issue. I have an IR temp gun I can set to F or C so I will recheck everything.

I don't have a CS but a lot of the guys at my field do. They use a heat gun/hair dryer to test it on the bench. I know this isn't an answer to your question but it may help debug the problem. Good luck.

I tried the heat gun and nearly melted my wires

But - if the Sensor Light is ON, doesn't that mean that the sensor is working properly?

okay update! my sensor is fine I just didnt set it up right, I do have a few questions though.

Is it possible for the carbsmart to richen instead of lean, since theres no servo reverse or does it know when u tell it the full lean and full rich settings via the adjustment screw.

Also when I was at idle the servo moved back n forth like it was glitching. is this normal?

Also anyone have any radio glitches from the carbsmart?

Fender Bean,
There are a couple of setup videos for carbsmart over on Finless Bobs section of the " Other Site" Heli Fr**K, they will show you everything you need to know.
cheers
