Instead of using a buddy box, I guess we could hold the Mode 2 radio upside down and reverse all of the servos which would give us mode 3
That's what I do when I fly someone's Mode 2 sim. Folks sometimes think I'm some sort of mind-freaky RC Superhero until they realize why I'm doing it.

so I just ask them why they don't change to mode 3

That's a silly question IMHO since the BULK of pilots fly Mode 2 so why would you go against the norm? It doesn't make you a better pilot flying Mode 3, and then you can't buddy box etc. with the majority.

Jagnz,
I know, I'm only joking with them. It was my own ignorance that got me flying mode 3 when I first started in RC about 20 years ago. I really didn't know what I was doing, had nobody to help me out, (no runryder) and was sold an old dissasembled Baron 30 with a Robbe Radio from Germany. I actually believe that it was supposed to be set up in mode 1 but I screwed up and put it together in mode 3 by mixing up the aileron and rudder. And that's how I've flown ever since. If someone wants me to fly their bird, I actually can buddy box with them.

well being Winter here at present

Its a good time for the sim and practise, my first attempt with my copterx was a disaster but yesterday I hovered a whole pack through in mode 2 very happy indeed, its interesting to see the instinct patternt breaking but I did have a couple of times where I just about pushed the foward cyclic to gain height... dam mode 1

I think a Sim would come in handy in over-coming this new learning curve.

I agree, but whatever floats your boat...

I have always flown mode 1, and have thaught about changing, But honestly I would be really happy if I had the balls to fly like I do on the sim in real life, As i can easily do funnels, snake, even half decent piroflips now. It just takes practice. I do agree that mode2 makes more sence heli wise. but hey I like to be different. The new Helis eg. Trex 600 and MY current RJX extreme make my flying look much better as well. I like the fact that I can try new sh!t knowing that the heli has the aggressiveness
so that if I need to bail I can, with power to spare... Not like my raptor (which ive just sold) which I got into trouble easily with..

Well I made the change from mode 1 to 2, It’s been 1 week now and wow has it been hard work mainly cause I get frustrated and loose focus. Its really frustrating when you’ve been flying for years and suddenly your back to the start. But finally tonight all is looking good i can finally fly the thing (sim I'm talking about) doing circuits and stuff with out so many dumb thumbs. I have struggled with the pitch finding landing the hardest maneuver. I'm putting in approx 30min every day on the sim which has been all I could take, but now I'm starting to fly better with loops and rolls starting to look like they should, I might try for more, So far so good.

how is this then

my change is going well, took the raptor out today and was setting up the mixture, without thinking I punched the throttle at about a meter off the ground......... just to check the climb-out...... problem was I punched the foward cyclic..... made for one very hairy nose stand... didnt crash though and was fine for the rest of the day

when I changed I perfected the "crashing tic toc" manouevre which starts as an incorrect input from the wrong thumb and a subsequent correction from the wrong thumb which becomes so confusing it resembles a tic toc kind of until you hit the ground.

Now I am so engrained into mode two....mode one is completely gone so you can change totally. Just take it slow and steady.

Slightly off topic.
What transmitters can be buddy boxed to allow mode2 to mode1 and vice versa?.
I fly mode2 and I want to help others commited to mode1.

Thanks Helinut, That is encouraging I know exactly what you mean it brings a whole new dimention to dumb thumbing it but I'm pleased to here you say you can fully change to mode 2 and breack the mode 1 mind set. It's a total brain rewiring job but after almost 2 weeks I'm really noticing some progress.

Would you recommend buying a cheap little elec heli radio package like the esky honey bee to try coming off the sim to same my more exspensive helis?

no. the sim will do it all. Thats all I did. Don't try to fang the heli's once you transition. Keep up the sim. all you are trying to do is reprogram your fingers. I am completely reprogrammed...like totally...I couldn't fly mode 1 to save myself and i was a mode 1 flier for over 15 years on planks and heli's.

Buy the esky piece of $hit simply to smash it and get one of them off trademe....LOL

into FF now

when the weather allows HEY! FF in mode 2 is so much easier.... dont know why some folks persist with mode 1.... even trimming up planks is a breeze as the left hand is doing NOTHING... you can take that off and trim your planks all day lol dont recoment this with a heli though.....

Hi coops2, Glad to see your enjoying mode2.
I've really surprised myself with my mode change it has been so much easier than I thought. After 4 weeks on the sim I bought a esky king2 to do my first crashes on (which I did)and test my new mode2 skills. After 2 weeks on the esky I was flying figure 8s and stuff and decided to crack out the trex 500 and then the 600 and now I'd have to say after another about 3 weeks I am back to where i was on mode1 flips rolls and very mild 3D and getting better faster. It just shows what you can do when you put your mind to it. I was not confident I could do it but now I'm very happy my brain rewired itself no worries.

Folks, I changed from mode 1 to mode 2 by a sim training which is very useful, I post that in my site and it is good for mode 2 and 3. My daughter also switched from 1 to 2 ... check my site in the signature and you can find it easily.
