It is not just a phone it is a mini laptop!

I don't know if the 3G has it, but the old iPhone you couldn't even get a simple program such as solitaire on there. We went to the apple store the rep showed us a stupid webpage to go to to play solitaire with an ad on top of the screen the whole time. Basically no downloadable programs whatsoever.

Also, a big draw for us was to have a driving map accessable even if no internet access could be established, well the iPHone couldn't even save a page or take a snapshot of a page from the web for future reference. Basically some of the key features that seem to actually make the phone worth it to us, it didn't even have. The guy did tell us they may have it available in the future, but as of now I don't really see us getting one because of those reasons.

We went for a phone 1/4 the cost, does basically as much of the things we NEED and the plan was 3/4 the cost, the rest of the features are just fluff and neat, but we are looking for a useful piece of equipment not a status symbol.

If the 3G will have downloadable programs, webpage history offline snap back, ability to save webpages then maybe we'll consider a iPhone again.

Like I said before, Apple isn't going for number of features, they are going for quality of experience. The average user won't ever sync their phone with bluetooth or play solitare, etc, and these are the people they make the best phone for. I am one of those people. I want to call, text, browse, watch, and listen. That's it.

It cracks me at some of you that have no idea at what you are talking about..... It is not just a phone it is a mini laptop!...

hahahaa... what?? You just described what almost every WM phone does, for a fraction of the price! And a mini laptop?? Seriously?! Do YOU know what you're talking about?! If you think the iphone is a mini laptop, check out the HTC Touch or Mogul and you'll realize it's not all you think it is.

You mention GPS - what happens when you are in a bad service area, and you lose cell service? Oh yeah - you lose GPS as well. On my HTC Mogul I have TomTOm and the whole Eastern USA loaded. I can shut the cell radio on my phone off and still navigate effectively.

And what if you want a different GPS app or web browser? Can't get it, can you?

As for your DL speed "887.80 to 1.1kbps" - do you mean 1.1mbps? If so, that's exactly what I get with my $30/m sprint plan. I get about 900kb-1.1mb down. Unlimited. No extra fees, no hidden crap. And if I want to browse the web I have my choice of Opera, Mozilla, or IE. For navigation I have TomTom, google maps, iGo, Tracky Pro, GPS Speed sentry, etc etc etc. There are thousands of apps I can DL for nothing on this phone.

Please keep in mind - I'm not saying the iphone isn'ta cool gadget - it is.. What I'm saying is instead of having the newest fad, I'll take tried and proven tech that has more to offer for a lower price - both monthly and startup.

I dont care what anyone says. Windows Mobile phones are the biggest pieces of junk I have ever had the displeasure of using and I've had a few.

Had my Blackberry Pearl 2 now on Verizon since it came out. Almost a year ago. Never again will I use another type of cell phone other than BB.

Just my 2 cents.

hahaa, spoken like a person who didn't know how to use a WM phone

No worries, they're not for everyone. It takes a little tech knowledge to get the most out of the WM phones. Mine will do everything. I have no probs whatsoever. And WM 6.1 is wonderful

my windows mobile powered samsung sch-i730 loves to crash and lock up. It usually happen at the worst time like when i need my alarm to go off. Also, its annoying in that there is a flaw with the way that Verizon's voicemail services communicate with WM. I check and delete voicemails and the indicator is stuck on. I can delete the registry entry that turns it on but then when I get a new voicemail the indicator wont come on again. Then the only way to fix it is to reformat the phone and start anew.

I am nearly at my "new every two" date (5 days from now) and I will likely be buying a BB Pearl from Verizon.

It truly is also unfortunate that Apple forged an alliance with AT&T. Their coverage is not that great. I had an AT&T phone before they merged with Cingular (also had a cingular too) and neither network satisfied me. The worst was all of the dropped calls on AT&T because the phone wouldn't switch towers when on the move.

Verizon has about the same coverage as AT&T. My daughter has verizon & she has better coverage in some areas and in others I do. Had the Blackberry 8310 & that was what I replace with the Iphone3g. Funny thing is I picked the BB8310 instead of getting the orig IPhone. I can be out mobile, pull my file on my home computer & sync all my contacts, mail, calendar with out a wired sync. Anything I do on my IPhone will change my Imac & PC laptop (it would if it did not crash again from a virus! F-ing Windows!) by just changing the info! You can not do it that easy with BB. One of you were talking about Sprint, talking about bad coverage & dropped calls. Can't even have a full call with my friend without him dropping every time! (he lives in Ohio. It just depends where you live for the best coverage.

On the funny side:

Not in the slightest I acutally have a lot of tech knoweldge and I enjoy reading the forums on my phones to see how I can get the most out of them. Having to edit WM OS just to get it to do a few of the basic phone operations is ridiculus. Some other basic software was needed as well. The battery life on any WM phone I owned was dismil at best, expecially compaired to my Pearl. They were more like small computers with a horrible phone app patched in to minimially work. My Blackberry has excellent reception, voice quality and battery life. The Blackberry is an awesome phone and computer all in one. All things that most WM phones lack. Not to mention the instant email push from consumer accounts like yahoo through BB. The WM phones I had didnt have this ability. Maybe they've changed that. The need to reset WM devices 3 times a day to keep it operating at peek was also a total let down. And all that is not even mentioning the crashes from WM.

Dont know how my BB shows up to the new iPhone, but I know for a fact that it outshines any WM phone based on multiple experiences with it. Guess I will never get to try the iPhone as I dont see Verizon picking it up anytime soon. The lack of ability from being able to do such a simple thing as MMS would most difenetly prevent me from ever owning one. Give me MMS and that voicemail service on Verizon and I would pick up one in a heartbeat. I already have a iPod Touch and dig it.

Have you guys even seen AT&T's 3G coverage map. Let me see if I can find it.

Blue on the map is their 3G service. Looks pretty weak to me......

That is my single biggest reason for wanting to dump my WM5 phone and change to a BlackBerry.

I dunno why you guys had issues, but WM6 seems pretty solid. Who knows, one thing can work perfect for one person and be a PIA for another. If I had to find something wrong with it, it would be battery drain.

Also, BB's are nice, but here in Canada RIM's network (I don't know how it works exactly, what it has to do with the BB's) is always going down according to the news and causing headaches for the BB guys. I don't know if I would even want one, although the curve is nice.....

yah, I have no probs with my WM6.1 phone.

I had an MDA that was WM5, and it was decent, but a little flaky. They seemed to have nailed it with WM6 and WM6.1

I RARELY have to reset the phone - I'd say once every couple months if that..

I dunno. I'm happy with it, and I get EVDO coverage wherever I go... Must have exceptional coverage in CT/MA/NY!

Also - when traveling - I was in San Diego, LA, Kaui, Oahu - all locations had EVDO coverage except one spot on a mountain in Kauai.. I was pretty impressed.

Turboracer,

Did your phone come with WM6 on it already?

If not, do you know where I can get it?

Thanks.

I believe it did, can't remember. I re-flashed the ROM to get rid of the Sprint crap.

Look on XDA-developers.com or PPCgeeks.com and see what everyone's using now.

Yeah, what he said. There's a few stickies on how to reflash (if you don't know how), as well as how to unlock it beforehand...

Lots and lots of custom rom's on there, so make sure you read before anything to be sure the rom you chose is right for you...

Can't wait for the HTC Diamond to come. Not sure if Sprint's going to pick it up or not, but if they do, I'll be getting one.

And I won't be sitting in a line for 9 hours to get it either
