Just heard that all the new 'gotta have the first one' iPhone users who no doubt want it for their status symbols and they are all dissapointed cause there is some issues. Maybe they don't have what it takes to be the first guinea pigs.

got one! Yes had a problem syncing this morn, as to many sold at once! I am on it now! This thing is more like a minture laptop plus phone! It is fast, Hot girls thread loaded with no problem. LOL It puts my Blackberry 8310 to shame, just not even close!

They went on sale last week for the first time here in Canada, and there were overnight line-ups for them

All those people that lined up for it, ended up crashing the Roger's network for a couple of hours

I'll be getting one but not until they have 3G in my area. Just not worth it to me until then. Where I work is going to be switching to exchange too, so that'll be nice to be able to synch up with it and push email out.

it's the first mass produced touch screen phone with a competent GUI. even if it doesn't have all the features, Apple knows most people just want a device that does basic things well: calls, messaging, audio, video, internet, gps...

I'm not a big fan of Apple myself.

However, if what you said were the case, then why is every major phone manufacturer making an iPhone clone it seems? Quattrokid is correct in that most people just want basic functions. Add in a slick interface that ties everything together and makes it easy to use, and it's an easy sell.

If I thought you weren't my friend...I just don't think I could bear it.

You sure about that?! I've had a touch screen windows mobile phone since somewhere back in 2003 I think..

The thing that's new and innovative - it's Apple! They made a phone! WooooT! hahahaa

I'll stick with my Mogul for $30/m - it does just about everything and more than the iphone.

Sure Windows mobile has been used in touch cell phones for years, but that does not mean it is intuitive or easy to use. I've used plenty of cell phones with touch interfaces using both proprietary and Windows software. It's like pulling teeth, but then again, I'm used to Mac OSX.

There is a reason Apple has the cult status it does: They know the consumer, they know the technology, they know how to design products. Everything in the Apple experience is designed. From the packaging to the GUI, it's all got the same careful attention paid to making things work easily for the majority of users.

Now as for the price of the iPhone service, of course ATT is gouging people. It's ridiculous. Prices are high because they have the power to make them so, not because the 3G network takes that much money to upkeep.

It's hardly easy to use. I have large fingers and using the onscreen dial pad to make calls is impossible!

AT&T is upping the price to compensate for the low hardware costs. They make up for the low hardware costs by incorporating the costs into the service...

Versatility is what I want. With the WM edition phones, the sky is the limit for software. An example is the dialing problems you encountered. Just google it and you'll come up with tons of different dialer skins for your phone. Can the iphone do that? I'm not saying the iphone is crap, not even close, but what I am saying that it is a fashion item to me, and a well advertised more than anything else. Geez....my mother knows about it even........

Yeah, I've had every option under the sun for 'dialers'. In the end, the screen just isnt good enough. My fat fingers just can't do it very well.

I've worked around it though.

I do LOVE the third party freeware support for WM phones though.

That is something that apple will never have!

So then why do I pay the same monthly rate everybody else pays? I pay full retail for my phones, because I won't sign a two year contract on a phone I'll be tired of in six months. I've purchased two $500 phones since Febuary of this year. Shouldn't I get a reduction in my rate since my equipment is not subsidized?
They are charging the rates they do because their research shows that is the max amount people will pay and still "feel" satisfied. If research shows people jumping ship due to price, they roll out another promotion, or discount more equipment, to lock you into another two years of residual income.
Anyone remember when dial-up was $40 per month? Now it's a free add-on to a $20 broadband plan. In five to ten years there will be a totally different landscape for the way we communicate, and how much we pay to do so...

It cracks me at some of you that have no idea at what you are talking about, it is like comparing a VW to 911 turbo! It is not just a phone it is a mini laptop! It is not that much different in price, I pay $69 a month for a family plan with 1400 shared minutes & AT&T rolls minutes. I never go over the min. Because the kids text everything now days! So I am sitting on 3200 roll min. Only thing I had to pay extra was $30 for an unlimited data plan, that was $20 less then my blackberry 8310 plan, as it was $50! The two year plan was not an issue, as I have been with them for about 6 years, since verizon screwed me over on a billing issue. For the price I have a full function phone with visual voice mail, iPod touch, mini laptop, gps & so on. The push service with mobileme is WOW! Never need to sync with computer, unless I need more songs or movies! It pushes in about 20sec. All contacts & cal. I also have Apple Tv & so does my friend in Calif. I was taking photos with the Iphone and sending to my MMe account & he was able to see the photo in about 20sec on his tv! Over a million sold in 3 days, apple must be doing something right!

I'm happy for Apple. I could have a 911 turbo or a vw if I wanted it. I drive a Honda.

I don't want all that crap. I especially don't want to pay for it. I really prefer to change redundant technology as INFREQUENTLY as possible.

People blowing their money every 6 months on the latest bling bling is what has put us into the financial mess we are in today.

Just did a Bband speed test on 3g, I am getting between 887.80 to 1.1kbps Not bad Internet on a phone
