You appear to be the one that claims a risk but can't substantiate the claim with anything except emotions.

Do you really need someone to substantiate the claim that flying a heli in a park full of kids is risky?

- - while ignoring much greater REAL risks.

That's what I call "head in the sand" . . . . a "mis-application of resources".

What greater real risks do you claim I am ignoring? Do you think that we all have tunnel vision and can only perceive and react to a single risk at a time? Do you think that because I'm spending time posting about the risks of flying a heli in a park full of kids, that I'm not addressing other risks in life, such as keeping my daughter from playing in the street, or running in front of a lawn mower? I've got news for you ... I can address more than one risk at a time.

I'm beginning to think you're just trolling.

Airwolf, bring someone you care about to my flying field and I’ll hover over their head. When you ask me to stop I’ll chock it up to EMOTIONS and then flip it inverted.

Let's just ignore Airwolf and he will go away.

That's exactly why I find some of these arguments so rediculous.
You exagerate the facts to suit your own position, "over their head", as to make you uncredible.

If you want to be credible, get concerned over this, a REAL problem,

Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year is 120,000, not a peep.

That is one number the AMA REALLY doesn't want you know! My doctor once started on the "guns are bad" speech (as pushed by the AMA).

I shut him up pretty much instantly when I told him "So the fact that I am almost 10 TIMES more likely to be killed by YOU or others in your profession than any of my guns means I should start an organization to ban doctors???"

Airwolf, how about posting a link that is relevant to the current topic. Such a douche...

I bet your a cranky old man that sits on his porch and yells at all of the neighborhood kids.

As soon as you keep it on helis and leave the unsubstantiated emotional concerns alone.

When the facts show there is reason to be concerned, I certainly will be.

Your attitude is a good examle of "head in the sand".

I suspect teaching you to sing is a waste of time also

What emotion? The facts:
1) People DO lose control of their heil.
2) Helis can suffer from mechanical failure
3) If a person gets hit by a heli due to the above reasons they will get hurt or possibly die.

In an effort to minimize injuries or death we should be flying in an area that minimizes injury or death, E.G. a flying field.

More FACTS:
One thing that was not even mentioned yet is frequency control. A kid 50 feet away could pull out his park flyer that could be on the same channel.

You keep reminding me of chicken little running around crying "the sky is falling, the sky is falling".

I would be much more at ease if you would be talking about "what is" instad of "what if" while ignoring "what is".

The reason statistics show that RC helis are relatively safe is because most RC heli pilots are not as dumb as the guy in the video.

Ok, I am done with you. This is my last post that will directly address you. You ask for facts and I provide them. You then ignore them and go in another direction.

If you are as close minded to think that the guy in the video was wrong then there is no hope for you. Please dig a hole, jump in, and pull the dirt over your head.

You all need to learn how to use the ignore button

my life has been much better just ignoring only one person on this forum...

Again you fail to take my position for what it is, let alone understand it.

Just because I don't jump on your band wagon you maliciously assume that I'm against you.

I'm against your excessive reaction and your going over board when you don't see others embracing your position.

That kind of moronic response I do not give into.

No teaching you to sing either.

But yet you fly at a regular field with others and their kids well within 100 yds ?

I just wanted to add, when you are at a field, you are at a place sanctioned for flying.

When you are in a public park, school playground, walmart parking lot or whatever, that is not an appropriate place to fly.

I don't see cars driving inside of crowded building where they don't belong. I don't see 747's taking off of freeways. I don't see babies beling delivered in McDonald(although maybe there has been some, lol)

Again, just trying to point out, there is a place for these helis to be flown and if there is no place close to fly, then the utmost respect and caution should be given to any bystanders, This video definitely does not show that respect.

Also, if it makes one safer, know that if anyone hit a kid or person in a public park/public area, better be ready to get sued big time.

Are you saying that because it's a "sanctioned" field that it's somehow "safer" ?
Even though all other physical separation factors are the same or less ?

Most sanctioned fields require the demonstration of appropriate flying skill level an the equipment is subject to a safety inspection.
But,as far as I can recall ,all of the serious accidents have occured at sanctioned fields.Go figure...

Never said it was safer which it is not, but it is a sanctioned area that is designated to be flown at. Usually people in the area know that is the kind of activity going on there, therefore are more alert(hopefully) and more or less know the associated risk. Also, from a legal standpoint, you have a lot better chance if anything happened. Its about a time and place to do things.

I agree with RappyTappy ... the big differentiator for a sanctioned field is the level of awareness. When people go to those fields, they know they are at an RC field and they are assuming a certain amount of risk. The same cannot be said of people visiting a regular park where somebody is flying.

I would go a step further and say that sanctioned fields *are* safer, because they generally have rules about who can be where. Like you have to have to be a member of the club to be in the pit area or especially on the flight line. There is usually physical separation (through distance and obstacles like fences) between the areas where members and non-members are allowed to be.

As for most serious accidents happening at sanctioned fields, I'm betting that's because most flying happens at sanctioned fields, or at least there is a larger concentration of people and property along with flying machines at sanctioned fields. After all, most car accidents occur on the roads.

It reminds me of the statistic that 80% of car accidents happen within 5 miles of the home ... I'd say that's because 80% of all DRIVING happens within 5 miles of the home.
