This was showing off, plain and simple. Typical noob thing to do until you crash for the first time and realize these things can and will KILL you and others around you if you are not careful...sad really. I would have lost it if the guy did that around me or those kids.

The way I see it, if this guy is THAT negligent in his choice in where to fly, he is also that negligent in building the helicopter. Also, flying anymore than a couple feet off the ground pretty much renders training gear useless. In fact, NOT having golf balls on the ends of those rods actually increase the chance of a ground roll. Instead of allowing the skids to slide, they could easily act as spears into any small burr in the ground.... Or skewer someone if he loses lateral control of the heli.

He is also employed by the company that made that decision. If there is anyone to criticize, it is ALIGN, not Alan. If Alan did that simply because Align asked him to, then yea... shame on Alan. But He happens to pay the bills because he is a spokesman for Align. I stand behind Alan's decision to fly. I stand against Align's choice in PR/marketing in that instance.

It's really alarming that the pilot had no regard for these children's safety. It's a real pisser! The reason why we're talking about this topic and not the 100,000+ deaths associated with car accidents and medical malpractice is because were in an rc helicopter forum! The thing that hits home for the most of us are the little kiddies. For the most of us, we have an innate tendency to protect them because they are precious and wonderful gifts. Therefore, when we see a video like this where he could basically kill any of them easily...it definitely strikes a nerve!

buburub, you are absolutely correct. I have 4-month old twins at home and if someone was being reckless around them I would freak out.

There are so many other better places to fly why choose a busy playground? That video could have ended a lot different if he lost control. I really hope this guy found a better place to fly.

The "safety" issue here is just like arguing religion or politics.
It's like trying to teach a pig to sing . . . .
- - it annoys the pig and it wastes your time.

Most people fail to listen to common sense and react only to emotions.
They keep it in an isolated context and Statistics and facts be damned.

Not unlike someone saying "it's for the children" or "it's for security" but failing to identify how. Like we're just supposed to rely on someone else's dictates.

Life is full of problems, you can't fix all of them, deal with it !

Have you ever seen or heard of a kid maimed or mangled by a heli ?

Living is detremental to your health, it causes death, guaranteed.

Nope because the vast majority of us are smart enough to NOT fly OVER a crowded playground. Nevermind the fact that this pilot appears to be pretty green.

I am absolutely flabbergasted at Airwolf's blatant disregard for safety.

I can't even begin to imagine what the world would be like if everyone said "well, can't fix all the problems, might as well just deal with it."

And just because I've never seen a kid maimed by a heli doesn't mean I'm going to fly my heli in a park full of kids, or bite my tongue when I see some idiot doing so. I've never seen a kid run over by a car, but I'm still going to insist that my daughter not play in the street.

Life is all about risks ... some acceptable, some not. Flying a heli in a park full of kids (or adults for that matter) is not an acceptable risk, and there is nothing wrong with pointing that out.
