e-Align T-REX 450-500-600 > T-REX 600 Tail wag redux

First let me tell you that this has slowly been driving me nuts -- tail wag that is. I've done many searches on this board and read many threads - lots of useful information. No solution yet.

Briefly - stock 600e, Spartan ds720 with BlS240 for the tail. Everything on the heli in in balance with absolutely no binding anywhere and no vibration on spool up. I still get a maddening slow wag of about 6-8 inches no matter where I put the gain value. I've gone in and increased the deadband number on the gyro to 20 and that has helped a bit.

Today I moved the ball on the servo horn in one hole from around 13.5 mm to almost 11 mm. I zip tied down the gyro and put on G7 tail grips. It's way to windy right now to do any flying so I'm in a holding pattern.

One other thing I did notice when building the 600e was that the tail casing did not 100% keep the tail rotor shaft from moving side to side even when I reefed down the screws that hold the case together. I still get a smidge (technical term) of movement - hardly visible, but I can feel it. I did try 3 different shafts -- all the same. So my big question here is -- Is the metal tail case from Align likely to do away with this problem, and is it worth the money? Thanks.

P.S. If you've got any other ideas on this I'd love to hear them... just not that it's a bad gyro. LOL.

Just a shot in the dark here because I was having some of the same issues you are describing. I thought it was all the things you mentioned. It drove me nuts and I even ended replacing 80% of the parts with new ones.

What it ended up being was my ESC. Yep, you read it right.

I am assuming you probably have the stock 75 amp Align ESC? If you do, reprogram it. BUT, before you reprogram it, you need to make sure your throttle curve in your NORMAL flight mode is the standard 0,25,50,75,100 curve.

When this was suggested to me I thought the person was crazy

But it worked like a charm

I had problems when my T600 was new and ended up upgrading to a Kasama tail rotor to completely solve the problem. I think that a lot of the Align parts are just made straight.

Gadget- I will reprogram before I fly (but I did use a standard throttle curve as you described). Who knows. How do you have yours set?

Ben - I've searched Kasama... which part is it???

Kasama tail rotor here:

http://www.grandrc.com/inc/sdetail/95177

Beautifully machined with no play whatsoever.

Or you could give the G-Force weighted tail blade grips a try. They really do make a difference:

One other thing to check is your gear mesh. I have never found a T-Rex 600 main gear that was true, make sure to set your mesh on the tightest spot.

Good luck!

Hen - Thanks. I just put the G Force grips on yesterday. Will try them today and check that pinion placement.

I'm looking for the tail case, not the grips, unless the G Force ones don't work, although I can't see why they wouldn't. The part I'm trying to find is the housing that goes on the boom.

I guess you're looking for part# H60043. This can be found at any online retailer, no problem.

Have you sorted the tail wag?

If there is soil going over the canopy, you're too low!
