I know it says in the spec maxium 6S on the 75 + 100 amp align esc but has any one tested them on 8S ??
Im running a neu motor in my Trex 600 and feel that 6S is just not giving enough kick im used to compared to my 600 nitro.

Im going to convert my lipo packs from 6S to 8S , if I have to I will get the CC 85 amp esc but would like to know any opinions on the align ESC if it would work or burn up

I've asked around about that too, actually was thinking of just bumping a bit going 7S. But nobody responded that the Align ESC was capable of more than 6S. No reports of anyone trying and having it fail though.

You go first...

In my long-term plans (if I keep the 600), I'll go 8S, using probably a Neu 1910/1Y heli version ($190 from a couple sources), and may use this speed controller:

That speed controller has good specs for a very low price. Sell the stock Align ESC, and get that one for a bit more. May use Zippy lipos from them too.

I will try it on the weekend , ive got the NEU non fanned motor , ive just converted Kong lipos to make 8s 5000 mah.

I had 2 x 6s 5000 kongs one had a leaking cell from crash damage. easy conversion if you can solder and change the balance leads to TP style to take the 2 extra wires.

Im thinking I should go 2 a 10 tooth pinion ? im on a 11 now or shall I just suck it and see

Odds are its not a good idea. Max rated voltage is 25.2v for the RCE-BL75G, a charged up 8S pack is going to be pushing 33v unloaded and 30v loaded. You will get the pop of your 600N on 8S, but you also may get a smoke trail like like your nitro, although black.

If you try it, use the smaller 10T pinion to start, and keep an eye on the ESC temps. Make sure the speed controller has good airflow to it as well of course.

I bought a spare 75A esc (cheap), and might be willing to chance smoking it. Let us know how it goes if you try it.

Oh and keep away from dry brush or wheat fields

But I really do want to to see you try it and I think its fairly low risk...

Yes I think it would be ok also as there must be tolerence built into to them .

Should be able to test tomorrow night , will take it easy and keep an eye or esc temp.

I just plugged the lipo in and booted her up , all seems fine but too small to spin the blades in my shed.

Can you spool it up with the main blades removed? Should be a good starting point to see if the ESC will heat up or do something else "untoward"

Success !!!!!!!!

Head speed seemed to high though at a guess may be 2400 also the lipos were quite warm.

The ESC was hot but not to hot , I did loads of tic tocs and flips etc to test her and all seems fine.

Im currently running a 10 tooth pinion , so will need a 9 ( is a 9 available ?)

I think going to a 9 will solve my head speed and lipos getting hot , should also help the ESC as there will be less load.

This should make this bird unboggerable.



Just got to trace a 9 tooth pinion and make another 3 lipos now.

Theres no 9 tooth available but theres a 188 tooth main gear (standard 170t)

So will order this and see what shes like think I will borrow my mates tachometer also.

Any one know what a nice head speed should be on this E ?

My nitro version is 2000 in idle up , so was thinking around this .

Gutted these 188 main gears are helical cut and only go down to a 11 tooth motor pinion not ten .
So I dont think I woulde gain any thing .

Help ?

Looks like to do it properly I need to spend some money .

1910H/1Y neu motor and Might as well then get the CC85hv unless of course a 9 tooth pinion turns up.

Can't remember- what Neu motor were you flying with the 10T?

I'm impressed that the ESC has held up under the 8S particularly since, if the lipo's getting hot, then you are pulling some hefty amps.

Did you consider running the throttle curve a bit lower? I don't really recommend it though, as the ESC would just have to work all the harder. Maybe an external governor like the Aerospire E- multigov?

Anyhow, moving on to an 8S motor and different ESC might just be the best alternative.

I would not recommend doing what you are doing. Align electronics are already not the best and now you are pushing the design limits.
It may handle it as there are always tolerance with electronics but if you ask me its a uneccesary risk to take. Just over a $100 gets a nice 10S ESC 65A from Thunder Tiger Ace, and the gov mode works!

I see a lot of Align stuff working great at our field from esc's to governors. I have on the other hand seen many a Jazz or CC controller burn up doing nothing even close to its rated limits.
