JR Heli Vibe - Airskipper - Sylphide - Venture > Pinion removal/condition

Removed the clutch from the V50 and the pinion took a good pull to get out of the bearing. Is this normal for the pinion to look like this for the part that was in the bearing?

How do I remove the pinion from the clutch bell?

I have all these parts being shipped but would like to use the bell if poss.

First, you should post in the JR section !

Yes, the pinion is made like this, the top section is made to fit in the bearing and normaly fitted with Locktite.

Now, to remove the pinion from the clutch bell I would put the pinion in a vise (using two blocks of wood) and then protect the bell with a couple of layers of electrical tape, add two pieces of wood (small blocks) on the side again with electrical tape. Then use a large set of pliers to turn it out. This is a low tech approach, if you have access to something like this, it is even easier.

Looking at your parts (was this heli stored under water ?? !!) some combination of heat and penetrating oil (WD40) might be necessary.

I do have one of those strap clamps.

I think the flash really made the metal look bad, doesn't look that corroded. I'll give it a tug and see what happens.

Thanks.

Dude,

He likely has taken into account that the main section has the best technical support

Looks more like salt water. Dude, if thats only the flash, get a new camera. It looks like it has been stored at the beach for 12 years

Yep. Even though we're talking about a venture 50 and not a vibe 50 but hey, we all like to help around here.

Yeah, I stuck it in general since it looked like it got more hits but shouldn't underestimate the dedicayed JR peeps

Camera...grabbed the closest flash, shot about 2 stops over and it brough out the......corrosion, it does look pretty bad though...but it ain't the camera or the nut behind it

The pinion has mucshroomed at the top so I figure it's a goner, i'll compare it to the new one.

For removing the pinion, do I remove the bearing from the bell and tap it out?

If the V50 is like the V3D, no, you unscrew it. It isn't a press fit. The clutch bell is tapped and the pinion is screwed in. Since the liner is a gonner anyway (by looking at the pics that is) I would just but it in the oven at 200C for 15 minutes and then with a towel around the pinion and a... how you call it? Those big clamps you use for water pipe repairs? Anyway, with that you grab the towel and then unscrew it while its hot.

Tony

PS - I was just looking at the bearing block on the left side of the picture... is that bearing so rusty or is it a rubber sealed bearing?

I guess there was grease applied of some sort and attracted dirt.

The bearing is just dirty. I dunno but going to give her a thorough once-over before I fire it up thats for sure.

Other than the pinion bearing, everything seems solid, swash has no play, all linkages are even, main gear is solid.

Anyone in NoVA want to earn a case of some cold ones?

Hi guys

If my Venture clutch and pinion looked like that, i would just replace the whole thing.......with a Vibe 50.

Pinion came out with a pair of pliers and holding the bell in hand...don't think loctite was used. All is back together with new bearings etc. Having my LHS do a once-over on it and we'll see what happens. Thanks for the help.

You only need a pinion, bearings, and a new clutch liner and you are ready to go.

Is the pinion worn/wear were the bearing seats???

If yes make sure to add PLENTY of green loctite on next one.

Top of pinion was mushroomed and bearings looked pretty bad. I used the blue loctite.....hope that's sufficient.
