e-E-Sky Honey Bee- Lama- Belt CP- E-Smart > question for anyone with stock e-sky tx and rate gyro

ok so my buddy who got a HBK is just about at the hover stage he has been doing the box thing and hopping around but I noticed the other day when we went flying(hopping)together his tail was all over and it wasn t him.He handed me the TX and said"here is it me or the heli?" I have a few questions....with the rate gyro does the switch on the tx actually do anything?it seems to me the answer is no but this is only the second time I flew with an e-sky tx, and second, is the rate gyro that bad ?or am I expecting too much.I mean the BladeCP rate gyro sucked for flying but you could at least hold a hover pretty well with it,this thing as soon as you give a little throttle the tail is all over, impossible for a newbie to get control.everything else seems fine, the tail just has NO hold.I may have to let him borrow the G90 for a while as I dont want him to get discouraged too early

As you know fender I haven't had the opportunity of a stock king. But I will ask What the setup is Im guessing its turning too slow. My hdx3800 on the 8t was giving my gy240 a workout and still drifting. You may remember my jump to 10T and all my problems disappeared.

My Brother in law has a stock TX/gyro setup which I do repairs on quite often but I absolutely hate doing test flights on it because of the stupid gyro. It's way too slow and it almost seems like it does more harm than good, go figure. As for the gyro switch question no it doesn't do squat because it's meant to switch between rate and HH mode IF a HH gyro was installed. With that G 90 on there it should work now if you plugged the yellow wire into channel 5 on the RX.

In my experience, the stock rate gyro holds OK but you have to crank the gain, and maybe even "cheat" with quite a bit of right trim.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you...

Fender,

That was the single biggest problem I had with mine while learning to hover. There is a very fine line when bumping up the gain. It will seem like the SMALLEST fraction of an adjustment on the rate gryo will make it go either way from drifting to hunting.

It caused me the most grief, but then I put on the 2100. Then it locked in, whatever headspeed I was running. Finally once I could forget about the left thumb I finally got a good hover. You guys remember my attempted hovers out in the snowy street, all over the place. Then the 2100 got put on and I was hovering in the neighbors basement.

I got called out to a job up in Billings MT, had to get to corporate in Omaha tonight. This time of year its emergency work. But it figures that I had just placed about three different orders for stuff, when the phone rings and off i go. Hopefully the wife wont open the boxes and see the invoices!!!

I will be all day driving tomorow, looks like I wont make the 30000 post challenge!! darn.

Goodnight owl shift.

well, first let me say there is an hdx300 and 9t pinion on there, and the gain is cranked with plenty of offset on the pitch slider, looks like I'll have to put the G90 on there, thanks

man that says it all, thats exactly what its like.it seems like it actually makes the tail more uncontrolable. It reacts so slow that the tail is like a pendulum.you give throttle,it swings right, you correct it goes left.I feel for anyone trying to learn with this gyro

just for the record I bought a BB kit last year(had the HBK 1 year now,July 4th)so I have never owned ANY piece of e-sky electronics

As bad as the stock rate gyro can be, the ESky HH gyro is actually not a bad piece. It is no where as sure as a solid state gyro but it hold well enough to actually learn on. From what I have seen it is very similar to the Telebee but at less cost and in a smaller package.
