Hey guys looking into using the idle up mode. In setting up the heli is the main thing to have zero pitch at mid stick. This is all I can think that would be important but if I am missing anything please let me know. Do you spool up in idle up or after the head is already spinning? I think the higher head speed will help with control but I could be wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

check 0 degrees at midstick and equal on both ends around +/- 9 degrees on a king.

Are you using a programmable radio?

there are two different means of going into idleup depending on how your throttle is set. I have a high flat curve I spoolup in normal to mid stick then go into idleup and takeoff. Some do this in a hover. I dont think you need the added stress while learning.

Still using the stock tx. Just wanting to hit that switch and see the difference, but if it wont help in my learning then maybe a bad move. The negatives may hurt more than help. When have most people started using idle up.

wkic, you are correct set your collective stick so when at center you have 0 degrees pitch. normally we will bring the heli up in a hover in NORMAL MODE, making sure things check out ok. then switch over to IDLE UP. just before landing switch back to normal mode. as far as headspeed this greatly depends on the type of flying you do, and the size of the heli. usually the 50 class helis run a little bit higher headspeed than say a 90 size. good luck

ok go ahead and flip the switch on the ground wkic and get used to it. Cause if the knobs on your stock radio are not set right the heli could fall or takeoff straight up while switching in a hover. My throttle is 85% at midstick I programmed the radio this way. The radio has to be setup for normal mode and Idleup so they will crossover seemlessly since your unsure dont do it in a hover. Put the knobs at center and give it a try on the ground.

If you have 0* at midstick then spin the heli up to midstick with the switch in normal and then flip the switch. You should hear a decent increase in head speed and you will have full negative and positive pitch. Just be sure to understand what full negative pitch means
