I am doing some research on my next future purchase. I understand that larger heli are stabler than smaller 50 series (easier to fly under windy conditions), what’s your favorite among electric models. I may consider Nitro, if the price of oil doesn’t go to 10,000.00 a barrel.

You haven't stated your level of experience. The heli that's recommended largely depends on your prior experience. Since you didn't specify, I'm guessing this will be your first helicopter.

Really it depends on what you want, but personally I think a 450 size would be a great place to start. Yes they're twitchy, but they CAN fly in the wind above 30 - 50 km/h.

Learning to manage the collective and cyclic on a twitchy bird early will make you that much better when you move to a larger heli. And when you do crash, it'll be cheaper to fix, and less intimidating to fly.

Also, 50 size isn't small. It's quite large.

Always 2 sides to every coin. Me, If you have a place to fly, Id start (and did) on a 30 size Nitro. So much more stable than a 450 and better in the wind. Tuning a motor is no big deal and just a matter of fiddling. Really Id skip the 30 and go right to the 50 but that choice can be defended another day. Anyway, thats what Id do.

If I had to do it all over again I would go for the T-Rex 500, almost as stable as a 50 size and does not cost much more that a 450 to fix.

I wish I could fly 24/7

just started this spring (greenhorn)

I guess I will stay with my electric exceed eagle 50 for this year and maybe next year I will advance to the next one I already have exceed-rc g2, I still have some time left I hope, guess I am in too much of a hurry, but all my friends passed away before they hit 55 and didn't really have time to enjoy their hobbies, all worked and no play which I am also guilty of and stopped this year.

Time to slow down and enjoy what I have.

noob

i'm a noob too. i too have an eagle 50 . if you can fly that thing you can fly anything. i just got a trex 450 thinking learn on something small and cheap to fix. i figured it'll make a 500 that much more impressive when i move on up. i added the metal head upgrade to my eagle 50 and now i can't get pitch right to get it off the ground. if you have some pics of your eagle i'd love to see them. good luck . i think you'll love a 450 or 500 if you've been flying the eagle.

If you think you'd like to go nitro, go with a 50 size nitro...longer flight times, more flights through the day, no need to wait for a charge are all plus' in my book.

I think a 450 size electric and a 50 size nitro make a great combo.

The 450 electric is small enough the batteries are fairly cheap, cost of repairing it is not that bad and you can fly it almost anywhere.

The 50 nitro gets you into the bigger, more stable heli's at a fairly economical price, if there is such a thing in this hobby, and you can get a lot more flight time in. Just gas and go, and change the RX battery out every four or five flites for a fresh one while you recharge one.

bigger is better

I started with a 30 size and learned to fly.Then got a 50 size and looking back I wished I would have got the 50 to start with.Alot of the 30/50 stuff will interchange so it isn't really that much more expensive to fix a 50 size but the diffrence in the way the two fly, it is worth the extra for what you get with the stability of the 50 size and the extra HP you get I think the 50 size is the way to go. Do some research on different helicopters and keep an eye out,

Fly it ! Crash it ! Rebuild it ! Repeat as needed !!

the hurricane 550 is nice and bigg but still electric.
would not be a bad choice.
it is very stable and can be set up for training.
also can do 3d with proper motor, battery and esc
