Avant Aurora - EFX - FX > Tail keeps blowing out

The tail on my Fx keeps blowing out when doing funnels, hard climb outs and anything else that puts a load on the tail. I've tried more gain on the 611 and it still does it. Only thing I can think of is the tail servo is going bad. Headspeed is 1950 38% gain, 105mm radix tail blades

How many flights on the servo?

Only 20, very strange. It could be the servo but unlikely.

This started happening right away with this gyro/servo?

Change the tail blades to radix 95mm and increase the gain.

Check your tail drive! Also limits and end points.

I would NOT increase the gain any higher on the 611. On any other gyro, yes, but not the 611. Generally speaking, anything much over 37% on the 611 will result in the servo working excessively and wearing out prematurely. Do you have your tail set up so that you are getting between 100-120% for Limits A and B?

As creightoncarr suggested, check your limits, but also go through the entire setup of the gyro and double check the settings/setup. Also check for any subtrim. You could also just go back and reset the 611 to the default settings.

I also agree that there is no need for a gain of more than around 37% for your application. Since you're running 105 mm blades and 1950 headspeed there is no reason that it shouldn't hold with the blade/headspeed combo.

I trimed the tail in normal mode, checked the belt tension
setting on my 611 are

Gain 38%
d1la 15%
d1d 50%
Mode CMT
Fmod 3D
Avs 100%
Limits are 115%

Switch from mode CMT to AVC. That'll do it.

I agree, you're better off setting the mode to AVC, but in the end that's not going to solve your problem unless with the way you have your radio setup the gyro has been operating in rate mode (which would explain what you are experiencing). What radio are you using and what values are you using for the remote gain on the radio?

Using a DX7, gyro is in heading hold when it powers up. My radio is set a 76% on 0 which gives me 38% in avc and 36% on 1 which is 40% in normal. I'll try AVC mode before I go to work tonight

This is assuming:

The tail blades are on facing the correct way.
The press pin on the tail pinion gear is not broken.
The teeth on the belt are not worn off.
The tail belt is adjusted properly.
The belt is on driving the tail the right way.
The gyro is set to go lock to lock on the tail slider.
The tail bearings are installed properly and are in good shape.
The push rod is not pulling out of the ends.
The push rod does not bend or stick in the guides.

Assuming all that...

Something seems a little off. If your DX7 radio is set to 76% the GY611 should be reading around 51%-52% AVCS, which is waayyy too high. If the GY611 is reading that far off you may be able to track the issue down by solving the "radio to gyro" gain discrepancy. A little visual below...
