Got a question for you all. I just bought and put together the aluminum head block from JB. When I tightened the spindle screws down if felt notchy, as in a bad bearing, they felt great in the old head and the grips moved freely now the grips move very stiffly and they are notchy. Any ideas for a fix?

Are there spacers that belong under the grips? perhaps you left them out?

Make sure the dampers are all the way in, you would have to shim the spindle end screew or nut, the bearings have too much preload if notchy, or you can file down the spacers that go against the dampers but it may loosen up once the spacers wear into the dampers.

If it's gonna happen it'll happen up there!

Pull the grips apart and then twist to see if the notchiness goes away. If so you are fine. The centrifugal force of the blades spinning will naturally pull the grips apart.

I was concerned about this same thing when I upgraded a Tiger to 6mm grips/hard dampers. This is how JB explained it to me and it was no longer an issue or concern.

I have experienced the notchiness on a new Beam E4. The grip pull test applied to it as well - no issue or concern.

grip test

It didn't go away when I did this with a bar thru each blade grip hole. I got it worked out with some tinkering, smooth as silk now.

I wish he'd post pictures of these friggen things. They'd sell better and we'd have some frame of reference if we could see them too.
