JR Heli Vibe - Airskipper - Sylphide - Venture > Help ! Sylphide tail belt question.

Hi all,

I am trying to find a longer tail belt for my Sylphide 90.
I bought some 720's Scott Gray F3C blades but are WAY to long for the SYL.
I already bought an Airskipper 90 tail belt but it is exactly the same length, althought it has a different partnumber.

Has anyone ever tried this ? or have a suggestion for a longer tail belt ? It needs to be 1-2 inches longer.

Thanks for your help !

Rob

Planks ? No Thanks !

Yup been there done that. The GSR's carbon tail boom and belt will solve your one problem, swinging the 720's on the STD Sylphide rotorhead. It'll make the heli look a little akward but it certainly works, my one Sylphide is still set up with this mod. It will move the tail box roughly 150mm back from its original position. Oh and you'll need a carbon tail pushrod, I think the one we used were from the Vigor or something. An extra tail pushrod guide doesn't hurt either in this config.

The heli becomes an autorotation beast in this configuration but you're going to run into some other problems unless you can hide a few more gerbals somewhere in the canopy, the rotordisc becomes simply too big for the average motor to swing fast enough. Other problem is the Rotortechs really only start generating punch from 9' and up, you'll load things up too much. I can go into this in length, but you get the picture.

In closing, those blades are absolutely amazing in all respects. But a stock Sylphide head is just not going to cut it.

I don't know if this is true or not, but isn't there a 710 version of the Scott Gray blades? They are the LE or something? If this is the case problem is solved since I am sure we can swing 710mm blades on the Sylphide head.

That would be the 3D's. Got a set on my Venture .90. Yellow and white blades, 710mm and really nice. But light as a feather with a much more aggresive CG. Won't work for F3C, very aggresive 3D blades with blistering cyclics and awesome punch. Not much stability going on for hovering though.

I realise my mistake yesterday, can't we persuade Rotortech to produce a 710 or 700 version of their FAI blade?

synodontis,

now we're talking, none of this changing the rotor head to SG head nonsense.

I like the stock head, it's a very pretty head, only bettered by the K&S one. The vibe head on the sylphide just makes it look gross.

LMAO! Please don't take offence buddy. If you're still worried about the looks of your model IMHO then you haven't been doing the F3C thing long or serious enough.

An F3C model with a still perfectly painted rotorhead, no dremel scuff marks, no burrs from grub screws on the flybar and and and hasn't seen F3C action yet! Heheeee

Now as for the 700odd sized Rotortech FAI's? I'm sure they'll also be a nice blade choice for a model like the Sylphide. Personally I'd look for some 690mm Rotortech, they apparently worked pretty decent also. I don't think their anywhere near as nice and heavy as the SG's but some stick skills could take care of that.
