Gasser Model RC Helicopters > Gasser gyro??? What's your preference?

I have been running the 401/9254 combo and while it works ok it's definately not rock solid even with Zeal tape, although it did help a bunch and was thinking about going to a better combo. The only 4 I can think of is the JR G7703D/S8900G, Logictech 6100, Spartan and the 601/611 combos. I have read that the 611 is a good choice and many have this on thier gasser and that the Spartan is suppost to be the hottest thing right now....But on a gasser? The 770 3D has gotten some good reviews and so has the 6100 but I haven't found much about the helis they fly. Who has one of these gyro's that's a gasser? Which is the top choice for a gasser?

Hey Tom,

I have a Spectra G with a 611 - 9256 works great.
Tried a 770 when the gasser was new and couldn't stop it drifting.
Prob be ok now the engine is run in..

Cheers Rob

I don't have any experience on the gasser to compare to outside my 601 but I was doing some tail slides with my predator tonight - the 601/9251 was holding it straight through the bogged pull out. Made me quite happy.

But if your 401 is not holding tight I wonder if you might be able to find more performance in there. Have you tried bumping up (or down) the gain a little? Is the tail servo getting hot? You might try the Hitec 6965 on the tail, I read here that a number of guys like that servo on the tail of the gasser.

...yep...

I've had the 770 3d and the 601/9251 in my gassers. They both held perfect, and worked without issue. The 770 was more consistent in piro rate, and is smaller and lighter. Ultimately I replaced it with the 601, just because the stops on the 770 are brutal, and I knocked a tooth out on the crown gear of my Predator with it.

Hi,

I'm using a spartan DS760 and it's working very well. My 401 had a small drift that I just couldn't stop.

I'm just thinking I'd like to go to something new. The 401 I've been fiddleing with from day one on the gasser. It works but just not rock solid like on my 90 sized electric. Moving this, that and the other and changing settings in random order just haven't made them the same or even close. The 401/9254 are saleable so which ever way I go will be pennys more.

Thanks for the input so far.....keep it comming.

I'll be installing the Logictech 6100 on my Spectra as soon as I finish the build. I have this gyro on my Raptor 903D and really like the way it feels.

I had some 401s

I sold them. Think of them as a cheaper version of a good gyro which you use to get the job done but you don't expect top performance from them. I flew one on my trex 450, but upgraded to a 770 for a constant pirouette rate. On the Spectra, I tried it before getting a 611 gyro, and it drifted besides not giving me a constant pirouette rate.

If you want a cheap gyro or your needs are not excessive, like a camera ship for example, a 401 is for you. If you want top performance, then go with something better. If you stay with Futaba, then the 611 is the logical choice. That's what I use on my Spectra-g now.

611 and BLS 251. Works great for me!

I had issues with the 401 with 9254 - crashed the GSR 260 and lost confidence in the setup thereafter.

I am focusing my efforts on the T-Rex 450's now (for AP) and the 401 is fine for that application.

I agree if you want constant piro rate the 401 is not the gyro. I have had good luck with the 401 but have outgrown it's ability to piro the way I want. I spent so much already on the Spectra so I am not going to skimp on the gyro at this point.

i just moved away from the gy401/s9254 it a great combo for a nitro/elctric heli it is not meant for a gasser with its vibration you will likely have a servo failure

i went with the ds760/g8900 combo
I also have a JR7703d/g8900 the setup is not like any futaba gyro

you have to set up expo and D/R on the tail if not sure ask because once set up its great small and does the job very well for the money its a great combo -- One Draw back to the JR setup was the servo it is so new that no one had a gear set 2 months ago so it was a pain having to purchase a new servo due to stripped gears , now they are available from some shops and still on backorder form Horizon
