Sometimes solder can wick up the wire making it slightly stiff and then it's not as easy to bend if positioned slightly off centre. Maybe this is what happened?

I hope you do fly it (without any issues) as it would be good to know if their green gloop has helped etc. Then again I can understand your concerns for not wanting to fly it... I was rather hoping to fit one of these RXes to my up and coming TRex 700.

antenna broken

After reading these posts about the antenna on the ar7100r i checked mine and it fell off in my hand. After a closer look i think that the area that the antenna wire is soldered to is to small.Ihave only had two flights with this receiver on my aurora and there is no vibration on it whatsoever. This problem needs to be sorted before someone gets hurt or more.

I did try the AR7100R repaired by Horizon this weekend. Mounted it using two pieces of double-sided foam tape, velcro on top of them and then 1/2 inch foam on top of the velcro. Seemed fine for the the first flight and a half. Then while trying some crack piro-flips the collective servos started to get jumpy again, kind of like they had prior when the antennas had broken off. Checked it out and the antenna is still connected so there is some other problem now. This is probably the last straw for me. I've never had any problems with any of my JR receivers. The concept is great but so far it seems like Spektrum really blew it with the implementation here.

On the bench, I'ved seen all my AR7100 and AR7100R (x2) twitch here and there. Same birds with the same setup using AR9000 and no twitching at all.

It's no fun when it happens during flight. So far it's just been small twitches and nothing even close to disastrous, but not very confidence inspiring at all.

I have 2 on order at my LHS I was told last week that my LHS owner spoke to his JR Rep and that the units are in house but going through quality control checks and that they would ship soon I am going to call him tomarrow and see if this is what they are being screened for.

Let me put everything I am doing on hold and take care of all your problems first!

I was wondering the same thing. One of the 7100R Rx at our field had the antenna break off, we just removed the antenna, range checked it,then ranged checked it again with a very high flight and didnt see any problems.

Yes I am running two satellite receivers wich I,m convinced saved my a$$ when the main receivers antenna broke. The only way I knew it broke was there was no amber light illuminated where there usually is. When I tried to rebind, the same light that is supposed to flash rapidly did not. So watch for that light it is an indicator.

Well, I can see by the way you are mounting your receiver that you are using Velcro (hook and loop) material and hard mounting it to your helicopter.

I think I would expect things to break on the receiver without .5" of rubber or other isolating material around the reciever.

There is nothing wrong with the antenna's, only in the way in which the receiver is being poorly isolated.

They are designed to be mounted in that fashion. Here is a picture of Paul Beard's taken from the Avant forum:

Would extra insulation help? Maybe. But, if you'd taken the time to read all of the threads on this topic you would have seen that some people have discovered their antenna partially disconnected even before their first flight. You may feel comfortable flying that receiver with .5" of foam beneath it, but I personally would not.

I'm probably going to get kicked for this.... But isn't Velcro kind of a shock absorber all by itself? If it is the normal hook and loop stuff that you normally find on cloth, it should provide a very good isolation for vibrations. If it is the super strong stuff, then maybe not as good for vibrations, but I wouldn't use the type if it were mine.

Soory no comments specific to the discussion since I don't own one of these receivers, just little AR6200 and 6100.

By the way, looks like a nice neat install on that bird. No wires hanging all over and stuff like that. Very clean.

Have you read anything on this topic? Some are broken in the box or within a few flights and there is a bulletin on Spektrum's site telling people how to fix it with hot glue/shoo goo. I would say somethings wrong. I had two come loose, creightoncarr had three and at least six other people here had problems. But maybe we are all morons.

I think if it hasn't fallen off yet it probably won't. Some were obviously soldered better than others.

I called Horizon customer support today and they claim they've only had 3 calls about the antenna coming off on the AR7100. According to the guy I spoke with, this just isn't a problem. He did direct me to a service bulletin addressing the issue. See link below. I asked him if they were trying to resolve this and he acted as though it just wasn't a problem and they weren't doing anything since only three people complained.

Checked my AR7100 that has 60 flights. The wire stayed attached after giving it a tug. I followed the bulletin and hot-glued the wire in place..

Thx

IT's what I do.
