That looks like the solution adding a few dabs of silicone on the board, any one any pics ?

Like said probably its the board moving inside the case causing the problem , may be the exit holes for the wires could be made bigger and silicone put there also.

Will pull mine later on my 600N as it has quite alot of vibes .

it may be to do with the 7100r has a rubber gromet and it moves easy
the small receiver has a plasic tubes that the antenna sticks out of
the ar 9000 has plastic tubes as well. i have just fitted
a 7100 to my aurora but i am going to cement a small tube to the exteria like the other receivers

I did not realise my RX was the AR7000 pulled the cover off it any way to check as its on my high vibes trex 600N.
Found the one wire was very weakly soldered onto the board .
Repaired that and ive also put a dab of epoxy of both wires where they go onto the board for extra security and a dab of silicone under the board.

Looks like its easier to repair those 7100 rx your self and do a better job , just resolder them and epoxy over the top , pointless just getting it changed by spektrum but I suppose they need to get aload back before they upgrade them.

i have just inspected my ar7100r receiver and sure enough a couple of strands were broken away from solderd joint and the heli has not even been started yet. i think the soft rubber gromet is alowing the wire to move by the joint i am going to cement a hard tube to the side for the antenna to go though and stop the antenna moving at the joint

Since silicon allow a little bit of movement, will epoxy work on the antenna to the board?

i have bonded a bit of tube at base of antenna i think this will help
this will stop the wire moving

I hope so. You have an awful lot riding on that antenna. I'm kind of surprised there has been absolutely no response from Spektrum at this point. I know they are aware of the problem. Not only does this problem put equipment at risk, but it also potentially puts people at risk.

totally agree with you i had a problem with my 2.4 module
if you look a my other post 9x2/9303 2.4 insert you will see
the antenna wire after i had just been flying my blitz avro i flew one of my planes was losing control managed to land in long grass as i did not want to chance coming near to the pits on inspection the antenna wire was lose and came out of the plug i was very lucky. starting to lose confidence in spectrum

After reading this thread I just checked the 7100R in my Aurora and sure enough the antenna is diconnected from the board. Thank you to creightoncarr for posting this as it probably just saved me from crashing my machine. Spektrum definitely needs to fix this problem. Only have about 14 flights on it.

The antennas are not mounted any different on these RX's then they are on any Spektrum RX. You guys have vibration issues. The only people it has happened to are flying Aurora's. The Aurora really doesn't have a radio tray so to speak and most are almost hardmounting the things.

I am not a Spektrum defender, but all the reps and everyone else is not having any problem at all. Bert Kammerer said he has hundered of flighs on one and so do all the Spektrum team pilots and none have had any problems at all.

I'm not picking on the Aurora, I'd lke to have one, I'm just saying I have seen guys hard mounting the things on Aurora's and the Aurora is a rigid machine so... The machine may NOT be as smooth as you think under that canopy.

Here are my solutions on an AR7000. Glob of RTV, can always be peeled away. Also the remote receiver cable is subject to vibration failure so I dab a small amount of hard epoxy from connector shell over the wire insulation. Just be careful and don't glue the connector into the socket of the receiver (remove it during gluing and wipe away any over glued parts). You can see the epoxied extension in the picture, and easy to see the globs of RTV.

EDIT: Of course if the pc board can move then I usually put a glob of RTV between the pc board and the case also, in a couple of spots. It can always be peeled away.

Support bacteria. They're the only culture some people have. !

my heli has fot flown or the engine started yet but this antenna was already starting to fail the problem is the soft rubber grommet
alowing movement to get to the joint. are all the other pilots using this receiver. i have a ar 9000 in front of me and that has no grommet
just a small plastic tube whitch is part of the case and the antenna
is held securly in place. the secondry small receiver also
has them

Not true. As I mentioned in an earlier post all three of my AR7100R's had weak solder joints and the antennas fell off. Two were on an Aurora but the third was on a N9. A fourth, owned and flown by a friend (in an Aurora nonetheless) has a much better solder joint - he has had no problems with it so far. There is a night and day difference between the soldering on his and the soldering on mine. There is clearly a batch of these receivers (or batches) on the market with a substandard antenna connection.

AND, FWIW, I have a SPEKTRUM AR9000 on my Aurora now with over 40 flights and the antennas are still attached. The antennas on the AR7100R never made it past about ten flights.

P.S. I'm sure the reason we're seeing this in Aurora's right now is because that's the new bird on market and people are buying new equipment for the build. Most generally don't run out and replace working receivers in existing birds for no reason. I'm sure that as the 700's start hitting the skies we'll see the same problem for the same reason.

I've done this to all of my receivers. I think that vibration is the main reason for all broken receivers. One of my external receivers broke just after high vibration caused by bent mainshaft occured on my little trex. I always use 3 pieces of douple sided tape when mounting them.

I am running a 7100R on my Stratus with no problems for about 15 flights. But tonight I noticed there is no orange light on the receiver while it is on. I am running 2 satellite receivers so apparently that saved my a$$. Just to verify I tried to rebind and sure enough there was no blinking orange light on the main receiver indicating no antenna. So very frustrating !!!

If the light blinks intermediately sometimes, I wonder is that means the antenna is loose? I am not talking about the quick connect blinks.

I'm not positive but I don't think so. I think an ocasional blink indicates momentary loss of signal (wich is why we have sattelite receivers)this is normal. Again I'm not positive. However mine is simply out.

I received the one I sent to Horizon back yesterday. It looks like the solder job this time around is much better. There is also now some green goop between the boards. I noticed that the this repaired unit the antenna does not line up perfectly with the center of the hole in the case, so when the rubber grommet is installed it puts lateral pressure on the solder joint. I removed the grommet completely to relieve the pressure. After all the problems I've had I am a little reluctant to try this again, but I pulled on the antenna pretty good and it seems secure. I'll decide this weekend whether or not to install it on something.

Is the misalignment a result of the repair, or was it always there?

I think it was the result of the repair. Instead of coming straight off the board, the antenna has a slight kink in it at the point where it was soldered.
