I've been pondering this for many months after seeing their performance at last years 3DM. There is also alot that I like about the way it is designed and I've always wanted to try Vbar to see how well it compares to other systems.
However, before I take the plunge, I would be interested to hear about any of it's shortcomings, maintenance issues and so on.
cheers

My only complaints are the frame to skid screws need to be nylon from the get go to prevent frames from breaking in crashes, the canopy is a little flimsy to be FG and the parts are expensive. But judging by the helis you have now, the parts cost won't be an issue. As far as how the helis flies....AWESOME! Very impressive and smooth. I do not have V-Bar so I can't help you on that end. You will not be disappointed with the heli at all. Go with a good strong 10s setup, great electronics and it will be all you want it to be.....Ron

I find the fibreglass canopy pretty good.

Only 3 parts are expensive: main frames ($35US per side), canopy ($70US i think), hardened main shaft ($25US i think)

The rest is great, just get the nylong 3MM bolts and its all good.

Perhaps the only bit I'm not that bothered about is the canopy - makes no difference in the air. Is there a plastic one ?

I'm looking forward to having a good scrutinise of the 600 in a few weeks at 3DM and I suspect, with a freshly charged credit card.

Does anyone know how well the swash servos bear up with Vbar ? (probably gonna use 8717s).

I was most interested to read PJs thread regarding the Scorpion esc and motor. Sounds like I'll be putting this heli together at the right time

I wonder if the tail grips are mod worthy of chinese weights. We'll see.

The Logo 600 3d with 10s is unbelievable. Yup, it's expensive to crash. I rekitted after my last crash. I may do it again. But, eventually I'll have enough parts to build another or a 500 should I choose. Incredible heli. It's super quiet, super powerful, and incedibly precise.

8717 servos with the 600 V-Bar?

Yug,

8717's are bullet proof. I have over 400 logged flights on three 8717's used on the cyclic controls of a Logo 600 (over 200 flights with a flybar, and the same servos now with over 200 flights with the V-Bar). They've been through a hard crash in which two of the servos JR heavy duty servo arms broke off, but the servo gears were undamaged. And before the Logo 600, the same three servos were used for 207 flights with an X-Cell .90 Fury Extreme.

Without a doubt, someone will have another opinion of the servos. But my experience with 8717's has been nothing but positive.

Take care, Dave.

I have to agree on the 8717's. They're certainly the best servos I've ever used. And I have definately had some issues with other servos. Besides, they look cool!

Received it yesterday and the other bits are to follow shortly

Perhaps the biggest conundrum I'm faced with is the power system. I'm intending on deriving all power from the 10S pack but the big problem comes when trying to find an HVBEC that satisfies the requirements. ie, 8V at 9Amps. The 3 8717s have a max draw of a little over 2 Amps each and I'm guessing the Rx, Vbar and Tail servo (all regulated to 5v from the 8v supply) will suck a further 2 Amps.
I've given up trying to find anything designed for the RC heli market so I'm now looking for mini DC-DC modules from the electronics industry as a whole. Hopefully, I'll find something with dual outputs and weighing under 100g.

Just do a 2s lipo and a regulator for the electronics......Ron

Yeah, may be simpler in the long run plus it benefits some noise isolation. I just like the idea of powering everything from one battery.
The other thing that could be quite neat is using the new AR7100 with the internal regulator to drive Vbar and tail servo. We'll see.

You had better read the specs on the AR7100 BEC. It will be hard pressed to run the power hungry digital servos and not be blazing hot to boot. Run a quality Duralite regulator or HV UBEC if you prefer for the setup you have spoken about.

I used to run a HVUBEC on my 6003D. I now run a Flightpower 2170 2S with dual output leads to a Duralite regulator. Never a power concern with this setup.

Perhaps I misunderstood how the AR7100 works. I imagined it took it's input power from say a 2S pack. The 7.4v rail then connected internally to the power pins for the 3 swash servos. The internal regulater would generate 5v for the receiver circuitry and tail servo.

There isn't a HV UBEC than can supply 9 amps

You are correct I miss spoke. The AR7100 has a regulator not a BEC . But read the specs for the unit. The internal unit is not as capable as say a duralite regulator. The head servos even the high end JR's will not draw 9 amps on a Vbar. Or at least I have never been able to fly hard enough to record that kind of load on my data system.

Now giant scale planes is a entirely different story.
