Synergy R/C Synergy N9 > Synergy crown gear and GV-1 help please

Hi,
I recently got a second hand Synergy and it's my first 90 size.
I had a problem with hunting and vibration visible in the fuel tank. Had a fly about this evening and the GV1 was better. All I did was drop the headspeed down a bit to 1850. I'm guessing a bit - is that a reasonable speed for a 90?
When I got it I noticed a chipped tooth on the crown gear so replaced it. I fitted it with one shim (I read Chukies doc). Since then, after about three flights, I noticed a tiny bit of backlash in the mesh between the crown gear and bevel gear.
The crown gear has one shim under it. Can I fit another shim to close up the mesh? Any Synergy owners have any hints or tips please?

Before you go swapping shims, make sure the front end of the boom & tail drive gear is fitted correctly.

Front transmission should be hard up against the start of the boom, & hard up against the front side of the front boom clamp.

With this correct, the front bevel gear should mesh perfectly with the crown gear, & line up perfectly with no overhang either side of the crown gear.

Yes 1850 is a good speed to run. But why are you guessing? The GV has a RPM display so check the governor and set the head speed there. If you are used to flying e 450s and 50 size nitro its easy to think the 90 size disk is spinning too slow when if fact you're running too high a head speed.

This is normal.

A little fuel movement is normal but the thing is if it's excessive you'll have tail drifting problems. If the fuel movement is very low at 1850 then you are ok.

Thanks for the replies.

I will check the boom and bevel gear install. I noticed a few "hairs" of gear material on the crown gear when I had a look. I assume that the gear is just bedding in.

The hunting occured when I had the GV-1 set to 1950 (same as my 50 - oops) and the fuel tank looked like a washing machine! Since dropping it to 1850 it has been much improved with no hunting. It could probably do with an engine tune but I'm not so good at the fine tuning of the OS90.

Thanks,
Lee
