Another learning experience....
No warning whatsoever, just above ground and tipped way back to start fastbackward flight, the very second I tipped, the tailrotor quits and the 600 piros into the dirt. I couldn't hit the TH fast enough to save it. Crap!
I took the tailboom apart and found that the torquetube bearing had worked its way to the back and the tube must have started to whip, then the end of the tube snapped off. Honestly didn't hear any weirdness before-- the tail was always locked right on and smooth.
Anyone else have their bearings start to slide around??
Well, that's another $169 lesson.
Thanks for any discussion.

not much, probably 2-1/2 to 3 gallons myself. Bought just the airframe used, but in perfect condition. The previous owner couldn't have flown it much.

Is it possible the previous owner didn't glue the bearing onto the shaft? Sorry to hear about your crash dude.

It's hard to say if it was, but the bearing slides around now, and of course the area where it should have been is all galled up from whipping within the tube.
It probably wasn't glued in.
Thanks

I always glue mine with epoxy, being careful not to get any inside the races. The extra bump created by hardened epoxy on either side of the bearing ensures it will never slide.

I always keep a spare TT glued up this way so that when I need it, I can change it out without waiting for epoxy.
