e-Align T-REX 450-500-600 > T-REX 500 How many are losing Canopies in flight????

Ok I got a 500 about a month ago, I have now lost 2 canopies in flight.

Align you need update the mounting system for canopies on the 600 and the 500 as they both have the same problem. too soft of rubber and the mount itself is not long enough too allow the rubber to seat fully, causing to want to pop off, witch has happened to me 2 times now,

How many more have lost there canopies in flight.

I have tried shoe goo on the rubbers, but it didn't help any, I can clearly see that its the mount itself being too short, guess I will have mod it some. Maybe some kind of bolting system.

Cheers, MM

Wow thats pretty nuts.

I have had no issues with mounting. IMHO I think its very tight and secure.

Do you have the bottom of your canopy seated in the slot during flight?

One thing you must do is switch to the black rubber grommets, the grey ones suck and tear.

Yes, I did have the black rubbers in my second canopy. They are popping off the mount post, just doesn't seat proper, standoff seat is too short.

I will just have to figure something out, shoe goo doesn't work, it just keeps the rubbers in place.

Wow.......

I've seen it happen a few times. One time was in a competition doing piro flips and when I say this machine was a total loss, believe me it was a total loss. Fact of the matter is that it was probably a total loss before it even hit the dirt. There were parts flying everywhere at over 100 feet. I never seen anything like it. It must have rained parts for over 20 seconds. I felt real bad for the guy because he was doing so good and then the canopy just came off and went into the blades. Game over for that day for sure!
Respectfully,
Ed

I just drilled two small holes through the mounting posts, and I use clips to hold the canopy on. It works great. It is very similar to the evo 50.

off topic, but i see you only have

one battery strap, take a closer look and peel them apart and you will have two. i waspissed @ align for only giving me one till i took a closer look. you should have two speed control straps as well.
now i started out using a 5 cell tp 3850ma and had 2 use regular screws for the anti rotation bracket, and put the threaded stud for said mount, and moved it 1/4 inch forward of anti rotatate screw. i drilled a smaller hole than the stud and threaded in the frame flush. thus the mount is 1/4 inch or so longer than stock.

Hi guys,

3 weeks ago during long inverted flight - 4+ minutes, I lose canopy:

I landed the model without problems, but had bad main shaft and broken main gear.
I'm using 2x 3S2200mAh batteries.
Now I have alu canopy mount from MicroHeli.

I have not had a problem either, although every time I mount the canopy I reach in and spread it out around the rubber posts and make sure they are straight against the canopy because they get folded back a little when you put the canopy on. I have flown it pretty hard even with one torn groumet and so far have had no issues.

Ive lost two so far. I now use metal standoffs, cut down to 20mm, and use the thumbscrews of a larger model to hold it on. Works great!

i havnt lost any yet in 50-100 flights

but i did dremel a little off the canopy so that it fits better in the frame tray, this makes the clips fit more snuggley and im sure this/my canopy isnt going anywhere.

depending on battery i do custom fit every canopy on every heli i have making sure it doesnt come off. after all these are models and do need some love in fit and placement of components

Just a question:

Could it be the way your battery is mounted?

In your pic, it looks like it's lifting the canopy.

MMike thats why I was asking about the mAh of the battery, I thought same thing! I wonder if anybody has had this problem that has the battery mod. Doesn't the battery mod allow for more room?

I usually put a velcro loop around the bottom of the canopy and the front skid on my big machines. I may start doing it on the TREX. But man mine is tight as a glove. Its hard to take off.

Remember dont over bore the hole when you put the black gromets in. It should be hard to push on to the plastic pegs.

I added another mount down low. Did not like the fit before. Seems to fit real solid this way.
