Just to make point I converted a e620 Raptor to a e710 which as the name refers runs 710mm mains. It has a stock plastic Predator head and mainshaft, JR Ergo boom and SDI belt but other than that it's all Raptor and flys great after some tweaking. I run an Orbit 30-12 on 10s2p a123's at 1800 something headspeed I get 7 to 9 mins of flight time depending whether it's hard or soft flying and has incredible pop and floats for ever on auto's. All this on 200 dollars worth of batteries. The heli is under 10 lbs ready to go, I think it was 9 lbs 8oz??? I forget right now. I tried 12s2p and it was balistic but the battery configuration made it drain different cells at different times. 14s1p was just stupid but had the same discharge problems. I need to make 12s1p or 14s1p packs to go that route. Right now it has more power than a 50 nitro but not as much as a 90 nitro but with 12s2p it had about the same and with a 14s1p pack it would prolly smoke any nitro anything out there. I have 6 10s1p a123 packs and 2 chargers so I can actually fly non stop all day but the charging gets to be a pain. That's where the gasser comes in. I bring all the packs and fly the electric 3 times and then break out the gasser and fly till I'm bored. I think the electric may come out second next trip it's that smooth.

I like both but as soon as they come out with a 90 sized electric that lasts for 30 mins the gasser is up for sale. I don't think that will be real soon though.

Gassers on the rise

For me i just dont think i could get attached to a large electric. There is something about a gasser, its got a character all of its own, it flys heavy,a bit like the difference between a mini car and a Mercedes.I find the concentration levels go up as the extra weight demands it.I love the smoothness you can get when you get used to the physical bulk of the beast. Then theres the countless hours of tinkering whether it needs it or not.All these things make it a pleasure for me and something different allways gets the attention.Just my opinion but then again if we all thought the same we would all drive Fords.

I got a Predator Gasser and a couple of nitros, I will sell it and buy another Gasser, but the history will repeat in the near future with electric helis, the battery improvements will appear and cost - benefits can change our decisions. When batteries can handle better longest fly time, lesser charge time, more cycles and lower prices...Well well guess what....

Gustavo

when a $300 battery (10 gal of fuel) will last me 100 cycles (10galx10 flights/gal) without deteriorating or self destructing in a crash, last me 10 min of average flying with the ability to do 3D at the flip of a switch instead of change cell count, and will charge in 15 min, i will buy a large electric. until then, 500 class on a123 is the biggest ill go with the electrics.
