I finally managed it! After a long day of yard work, hot as hell I went up to take a shower and clean up. A thundershower came and it got real windy, sort of blew my chances for a couple of evening flights. But by the time I got dressed, it seemed to calm down really nice so I packed the Spectra-g in the car and drove off to the field with the goal to put in 2 flights and reach 500 flights.

By the time I got to the field it died down completely and was absolutely dead calm and no-one there to boot. I gassed it up and flight #499 was so silky smooth I enjoyed every minute of it. 15 minutes were up and I landed to refuel.

At 6:55pm, I took off flight #500 and enjoyed very VERY smooth backwards inverted work and I sharpened my skills and built some confidence doing it. A couple of passes I remember thinking I haven't seen this or done this particular travel direction before, but stay calm and fly through it nothing should be different about it. You know how it is, when you see it the first time in some orientation, its always a tense moment as you haven't flown that path before.

Anyway, it was awesome and I didn't want to quit flying, but it was getting a little late and the mosquitos were coming out nagging me a bit while flying I decided to stop flying and go home with 500 flights even.

I was smiling all the way home, what an awesome feeling! First flight was 9/21/05, so approximately 2.75 years to get here and enjoyed every minute of it!

Nick and Peter, its your turn now!!

Nice job, I love a calm evening of flying to top the day off. I am sure you will sleep well tonight.

One mile of road will take you one mile. One mile of runway will take you anywhere in the world.

I remember you and I got our spectra's very close to the same time and mine has been flying great too this whole time other than when I've crashed it twice. I was thinking about how much I've flown mine compared to you but I don't keep track of my fights. I have a fairly good idea of how much oil I've used and since I mix it @ 2.5oz to a gal. I figured that I've probably ran about 15 gallons through it. Rbort, do you have any idea how many gallons you have ran to get to 500 flights? I don't think I'm anywhere near 500 but?

If I was to calculate it

I fly 15 minute flights. On average there is a 1/4 tank left out of 16oz. With close to 3.5oz per gallon oil, each gallon is 131.5oz. 12oz per flight divided into that will make 11 flights per gallon.

500 flights / 11 flights = approximately 45.5 gallons.

If you're flying 15 minute flights with a G26 like me, you're probably around the 165 flight count.

My 1005 gets better gas mileage, partly due to lower GR even though its not that much lower and I compensate for it with more rpms. Also most likely due to the fact that its slightly lighter. I think if I remember right I can get 14 flights per gallon on that machine with the same engine.

I've crashed mine 4 times since day 1.

Flight #12, link popped off due to old Hanson shaky motor and bad delrin ball. Rolled over from a 3 foot hover into the ground, minor damage, luckily it happened then and not 10 seconds later as I was checking out the battery monitor to make sure the generator was working before flying away.
Flight #82, rear servo stopped moving, premature failure probably caused by reasons above. Flew it down to the ground holding full forward stick and boom struck at 3 feet off the deck when I tried to add collective at the bottom (bad idea with a failed CCPM servo).
Flight #418, rudder servo failed while vertical in a 4 point flip, somehow managed to right it while spinning for a crash landing that didn't break blades or damage the tail in any way. Did bust the landing hear and lower motor plate, cracked the engine crankcase due to lower plate bust.
Flight #451, damn airplane pilot slammed into it from the bottom up while I was hovering 200 feet up waiting for his low high speed pass over the runway to go by so I could hit hold and auto down. Instead he pulled into a vertical and went upwards like a missle for 2 seconds before impact. Claimed he was doing a loop.

The good news, I've never "fat fingered it".
