I bought a 55 gal drum of kerosene the other day and wonder if I could mix all the oil into the drum at once, or would the oil settle over time.
Any chemists out there?
Thanks,

Not a chemist, but I personally would mix it in 5-10 gallon lots, depending on how much oil you have to add. This would just be piece of mind to me, not to say you couldn't do it all at once.

Be very careful. Unless you plan on burning a lot of fuel in a short time it is not recommended to purchase such large quantities of fuel. The chances of contamination ( ie H20, bacterial build up ) are very high. I would recommend that you contain the amount in smaller 5 gallon sealed containers so as to prevent cross contamination and bacterial build up. A number of turbine manufacturers learned the hard way about long term 55 gallon drum storage ( ie GWM, RAM )
with friends like his..........and after watching the video, I rather doubt he will be sitting on that 55 gallon drum very long at all!
I would follow suggestion about 5 gallon containers......mix in turbine oil as you refill the cans.
One nice thing (among others) about living in the desert.....no humidity to speak of.......hence I doubt your cashe will sour before being torched. Go raise some hell, Bill.......

Turbine Party!!Maybe we should all head down to Tuscon and help Bill out! I would HATE to see good kerosene go to waste
Hey Bill how about it?? Let's have a BYOTO (Bring your own turbine oil!!) party at your place

GREAT IDEA !Sure.....I like that idea......I'll pick up a case from Rick.......maybe get Bill to leave the spray equipment out and we can have canopy painting lessons as well???

bacteria? Can anyone provide an authoritative source which confirms that kerosene will support the growth of bacteria? or any other life form for that matter? Just curious.

Ask anyone that works with it day in day out. The bacteria grows in the water/Kerosene interface. additives like Biobar (Borax additive) will keep it under control but are corrosive. adding Leaded gasoline will stop it as well but thats no good for your turbine. If you do use a drum don't move it around, put it in a drum holder and put a tap on it and just use it.
