I just tried to install the software, but it aborts saying a newer version is already installed. Do I need to uninstall the older version of castle-link first?

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter.

no.

edit:
on the firmware screen you should see both the latest in use by software as well as the latest downloaded...once updated they will both match.

MrMel:

I took the laptop to the field to do some adjusting on EStratus with Neu 1915/1.5y 10:1 ratio.

Gov Speed: 1800, 2000, 2200 Gain 15-21%

At 2200 and 21% gain, the tail appears solid but the other speeds are crappy. Lowering the gain also seem to drop the rpm from 2200 to ?? (did not tach).

It seems they need to be able to assign gain setting for each rpm to fine tune.

no you do not...

current firmware and available firmware are on the same window...you can go back or to the latest by selecting it then just pressing the update firmware button.

I just now went back to 1.55 and it gave me a new firmware available window (due to the automatically look for update is enabled) and I
uploaded defaults to ESC p_80...now going back to latest 1.56 beta and repeat.

EDIT:

whatever firmware you choose will be loaded to ESC and it OVERWRITES existing firmware, therefor no removal needed as its not even an option.

You need to uninstall old version of CASTLE LINK, and install the new one, that new version still has the old firmware's in it, but you cannot install the new over the old.

Interesting, only time I got "ok" tail I got really crappy RPM control, but that was with low gains at my wanted RPM anything > 8 gain gave wag

I started lowering the gain to have a useful low rpm but that is no way to go. They really need to have separate gain setting for individual rpm setting so you can fine tune it.

Hmm, at 2200 you probably at 100% throttle/straight through, thats probably why it worked...

Finally, someone steals a page from Schulze and implements a feature that they have had for a long time, what I like to call the "auto zone". Can't believe it took someone else this long to catch on.

Now they just need to work on that governor. Why not implement a self learning governor?

It appears that the rpm setting at least works. I had tough time for the governor high (or low) mode to change between high and low consistantly. Even when it did, it did not stay stable in lower rpm than almost full rpm so it did not get any worse.

But, even with the tail twitching, it at least gives me the rpm I want. CC will consider adding gain setting for each rpm slot so you can fine tune for all three setting. According to Bernie, you have to adjust your gain for the middle rpm so it will work for low and high.

Well, this is the reason I decided I needed to get the USB link for my CC35. I can't get the damned thing into programing mode using the transmitter sticks, but it should be a peace of cake with the computer link. I can't wait to try the governor mode.

I have now beta tested more 12s setups.

Here is what I found.

Setup:
SetRPM
12s
Tested with Neu 1915 & Scorpion HK4035

There is RPM's it likes and dislikes.
Same as Red_Z06 reported on the neu it works on very high RPM (probably when throttle is around 100%)

On the scorpion it works good in a larger range of throttle, but too low and you get oscilliation there too.
Sample: 12s, 9.9:1 gearing, 500kv motor, 1920rpm is good to go while 1850 starts to get oscilliation, 1700 and it wags badly.

I agree with Red_Z06 assessment that it can be solved if you could enter gain per RPM except with the neu where I think its more too it.

In the process I found a bug in the software,
If I enter Pinion/Main gear under motor its ok, if I enter gearratio it looses all data when I read/or restart the program.

Mel:

It seems like they were able to merge the Gov Low and High into one. Which is a good thing. They also fixed the ability to set 3 different RPMs where Gov H&L had trouble doing that effectively.
Another thing to note is that it can now change rpms smoothly.

So, it touched on some bug issues but I don't think gov gain algorithm was changed much.

Can someone clarify how the abort auto feature works? Do you need a non-zero throttle input for throttle hold? I have tested it using a zero-throttle hold, but it always goes into slow spool-up.

By the way, it seems slow spool-up is much improved in this firmware release. I can get it much slower than before, using the lowest setting.

i am curious about how many people have tried the new firmware in small 450 machines. I am going to try it in my MA Furion 450 next time I get out, which has a scorpion -6(11t) and a CC45.

Anything special to keep in mind during the setup?

Well I will give it a go on one of my Logo machines tommorrow, going ot try the "simple mode". See how it goes. I saved the old file with older firmware if this one gives to much grief. I have been waiting for the HV Jives for a long time, it would be nice if this would work as I have a few dusty on the shelf.....

I've been watching this thread since it started and I'm now glad I haven't downloaded the newest Castlelink and HV firmware. I'll let those of you with "faith" get it figured out.

Every Castle firmware revision has been a joke IMO.

I was hoping for the "simple governor" option to be something along the lines of the Euro ESCs but once again it looks to be a disappointment

And with each new version a new tutorial needs to be designed to learn how to program them.

I need a CC HV ECS for Dummies or maybe I'll just plug my Shculze or Jazz in and go fly instead
