Well it's just arrived and I am very excited to get this one finished! The fuse is based on the old Hirobo Gazelle (which I thought was quite small) however next to my Vario EC155 its about the same length and will certainly look impressive in the air. My version will use Vario mechanics (I think Kobold or Sky Fox not sure yet, with an OS70 - that will have ample power if my EC155 is anything to go by), a three blade head and the Hirobo fenestron tail.

Please excuse the pics, but I hope they give you some idea of the model. Sadly due to commitments, it will take me a little time to get this one in the air, but please bare with me!

The fuse comes with most of the body parts needed, however you do need to do a little fabrication on the side pods. The fit of the parts is pretty good and should not take too long to get them right. There is no woodwork included, as that will depend on what you plan to use for the mechanics.

A real builders model I think, will keep you posted!

It makes a great model. I bought mine RTF from Jack Dunkle, owner of JMDModels.com and added the "JAFO" and some other details including animated chain gun.

Hi Hoverup

What mechanics are you using in your Blue Thunder?

Great stuff, Blue Thunder was one of the first computer models I made ...

http://www.rfmodels.com/shockwave/bt.htm (you need to have shockwave installed to view the model)

I have a load of screen caps from the movie you can have when you get to the detailing, if you want.

T-Rex 600e with Align BL motor and ESC running on 6S1P 5000mah TP Xtreme Lipos. Great turbine sound, zero smoke and no messy clean up. One-off three bladed head and fenestron (uses Thunder Tiger Mini Titan T/R blades).

Scale is nice, but it takes alot of effort to get to the level of Hoverup's bird, and only one mistake to go all the way back to the start. Great looking bird.

Now the T Rex has given me an idea. I fancied making this electric and the T Rex is a cheaper option. How is it on power?

Should be plenty power to haul a scale body around. There are a lot of T-Rex scale projects documented here:

Plenty of power. Have not looped it yet (like the model in the movie), but I am certain it has the nuts to do it.

Didn't mean to hijack your thead Red Machine. Please continue to post as I don't think anyone has done a complete build thread on Steve's great f'glass B/T.

Well I have cut the windows and filed them down to size (I hate this messy job with a passion and there are 14 windows on Blue Thunder!!!)

I then went over the fuse with a sander and taken any imperfections off. I plan to prime the fuse front next and fill what's needed. Once that's done, I will use some filler primer and shape the front to emphasise the angles the helicopter has around the sides and windows. I will try and get that done this week if I can!

I also found a new Vario fenestron on ebay for a good price and that will go in this helicopter (just need to trim the tail blades to fit).

Looks like you're off to a good start Red Machine. Keep the pics coming. It's a beautiful kit from a professional fiberglass guy.

Well the front is now primed and filled... took me a lot longer than I had hoped. The pic shows the filler primer and I will dust it off with some grey primer to finish the prep off before paint.

Also paired the bottom cover to the fuse. There will be some work on that to get a nice fit but should not be too bad. Hope to have it done in the next few days if I can and then move onto the top cover.

Also ordered a set of Vario Sky Fox skids to sit it on.

PM or e-mail Steven in Australia. He's the creative artist that does the Blue Thunder kit. He is in the fiberglass business and does great work.

Things are moving. I have dry fitted the top cowel and used some bolts to secure it for the time being (I plan to use some M2 bolts with blind nuts on the inside). I have also done the same to the bottom cowel however different to the plan, I intend to glue this to the bottom of the fuse so I can get a nice finish. Battery access will be through the nose and I have some ideas on how to make the front canopy easily removable. I did have some big issues over this as once its glued, I won't be able to remove the skids... but then I thought, why would I want to!

I have started to glue the skid braces in place and plan to put a basic floor frame in place to hold the mechanics. The skids need finishing as do the openings around the skids... thats the next job!
